    Gaining Muscle While Cutting (9 Month Time Frame) **experienced lifter**

    Should I try and gain muscle while cutting for the full 9 months, or should I cut for 6 months and begin bulking for 3?


    Useful Information.........
    I have 5+ years of proper lifting experience.


    I have a hard 9 month deadline, I'm trying to go to boot in January.


    Assume I'm not an idiot.. I'm looking for opinions, educated or otherwise.

    I've gained and lost 350 lbs over the last 4 years.. stretch marks from my waist to my armpit..it's not aesthetic at all..but I am strong as hell from taking advantage of that...7 point skin fold tests have an error of +/- 3% though so

    I could be anywhere from just under 200 lbs of muscle to just under 220 lbs. I'll post some pics after I get below 15%.. should be within the next 4 months (hopefully :P) this time I hope to keep it all for a while.

    Getting below 15% 4 months? That's a super lofty goal if I've ever heard one.

    I'm not sure how you calculated your bf% it's almost 100% sure it's off. And maybe by a lot. At 5'10" you are clinically morbidly obese. How much do you expect to have to weigh to get under 15%?

    You should really think your goals through better.

    It was so hard getting this much muscle.. would properly placed keto diets and starved LIIT in between large macro days for heavy lifting work do you think?

    And, thanks for the compliment but I'd rather be a skinny little dude with no stretch marks, gynecomastia, and a larger ego than this "beast"..it'd also help for boot camp, I'm gonna sink like a rock in that pool lol

    Yeah, you're right 5 months not 4.

    caloric deficit of 1000-1100 per day will get me 42-50 lbs down in 5 months which will have me at 263-255 lbs around 18.5%-16% so yes it is lofty to do in 5 months..but it's easier (for me) to lose fat while I'm still fat so for the first 5 months it's feasible given my commitment.

    Do you have any tips though for maintaining muscle during a cut?

    you are probably sitting very close to your genetic limit.

    While there is some research showing that on a slow cut with proper macros one can gain muscle mass while loosing fat even up to the most trained athletes, this is with a low probability and may not be the case for you.

    I think you should just cut, preserve strength and take it with time.

    I knew before I told you that, that that would be your response ( holy that's) but you won't get me down. I'm not a little skinny bish, I might have even had 100 lbs of fat on me when i started but I don't now and I've only gotten stronger as i've cut

    Calipers are not very accurate even more so in the obese. They are also very prone to user error.

    220lbs, 10% BF is impossible for a natty 5'10". No-one exists with those stats without gear.

    that's a long term goal. . I see no reason why I can't achieve the goal I put in this thread (-80 lbs fat, -10 lbs of muscle)= 215 with 200 lbs of muscle

    1200-1400 calorie deficit 6 days of the week for 9 months, with my workouts included in that..it's very feasible. especially since I'm supposed to be eating over 2500 calories a day just to maintain and I'm eating 1400-1600.

    Along with that, getting 220+ grams of protein a day, and not being an idiot..I'll probably start using thermogenics once I get below 15%

    Let's see, 220+ grams of protein per day with an intake of only 1400-1600. How much thought have you put into that? How do you suppose you will get a decent fat intake in there along with carbs?

    What happens on the 7th day you are not in a 1200-1400 calorie deficit?

    Thermogenics = Waste of money

    You are extremely delusional if you think you'll be standing at 215lbs with 200lbs of muscle, Unless you have been taking tech, and plan on taking it all the way throughout your "cut" I can assure you that you will not be anywhere near these stat's.

    It's only a sign that your CNS is adapting to your training.
    Get those adaptions out of the way then when you go on a cal surplus at some point you'll be primed for muscular gain.
