I did my first body building show this past weekend, a lot of you may have seen some of my previous thread tracking progress over the 12 weeks I did my prep. I began my cut at 210lbs and came in pretty diced at 181lbs. I will briefly recap it all with pics and info to the best of what I can remeber ITT but I'll also be starting a body blog to track my progress from now untill I chose my next show. If you'd also like to follow my progress I'm pretty active on Instagram my user name is BrandonPotyok
So here it is kunts, 210 pounds a little over 12 weeks ago
Was taking in about 4600 calories a day, 450g+ a day in carbs. Cardio was non existent, just strictly training multiple parts each day.
This was about 8 weeks out. I began introducing cardio doing 15 mins of HIIT 3-4 times a week weight was around 200lbs (mostly stair master) cut my calories down to 4100 and was still around 380g+ unrestricted carbs
6 weeks out calories were now down to 3500 calories and my carbs were near the lower 300g range, not sure of the exact amount. Cardio was now 4 times a week and extended to 20 min HIIT sessions with a 45/45second break between resting and active states.
4 weeks out calories now down to 3100 a day, mandatory 7 days a week of cardio post training of 20 min HIIT sessions. Weight was a little under 195lbs. All carbs from this point forth came strictly from greens (asparagus or broccoli)
2 weeks out I kept my calories the same from this point forth until contest day. Weight was around 191lbs and taking in 2900 calories. Water intake is now a focus and I began drinking 5 gallons of water a day (aimed for 1/2 gallon of water per hour, pissing ever half hour or so like I was prego)
1 week out, calories the same but now only taking in 70g all from greens, water in take same, ... Only thing changing now was my split and cardio regiment. Each day I targeted one body part and became a pump monster, squeezing each rep as hard as I could to get out any stored glycogen from the muscle. After I was done 30 mins of steady state cardio was done, speed walking mostly on an incline to keep my quads fresh for the show, leg training also ceased this week. Was weighing about 188lbs at the time. I was priming myself at this point for the carb load and wear depletion so I was very flat.
Now the days before the show. I won't be doing this again for a carb load because of how I responded, I'm very sensitive when it comes to carbs and either I didn't eat enough to fill me out like expected or I had to many and spilled over a bit. 2 nights before the show I feel I peaked, I pulled my water intake down from 5 gallons to 2.5 gallons that Wednesday and this was the ensuing result that night
I was dry to the bone, flat, but dry. For my next show I think I'll actually run this water intake all the way to the night before the show and drop it that day down to 1/2 a gallon rather than cut it 2 days out, I seemed tk respond almost instantioisly with the change. Fast forward to the morning of the show, I woke up after my carb load (chicken and sweet potaoes the day before all day, the little water in them was taken into consideration when I did my water allotment for the day) and looked a bit blurry. Corrected this by snacking on dry rice cakes all day and eating a lot of chicken and eggs (protein acts as a diuretic and helped dry me out) on too of doing posing every half hour during the corse of the day which helped harden me up and keep things tight. I looked better during the night show in my opinion than during the more judging but still killed it.
I came in at 181lbs and the consensus from the crowd and fellow competitors was that "my conditioning was 2nd to none". I qualified for both Middle Novice and Open light heavyweight. Took 1st place in the middle novice, 2nd place overall novice and the judges said it was only by a point, and I took 2nd in the open light heavyweight division. Here are some photos from the show, like I said I'll be starting a body log on here to keep track of everything I did leading up to the show, this is a very brief cover.
I'm heading to the gym now so any posts I'll respond to later, train hard guys.
Let's address the elephant in the room because assumptions is what the MISC does best. No, I have NEVER used anabolics or any kind of steroid in my life. This is 9 years of progress, yes, that means I started when I was 14 (I'll be 23 in June) and as unlikely as it may seem, all I did in HS was train for football. I don't mind the ignorant comments, but for the integrity of myself and competitors alike, I am 100% natural. Only thing I use to my advantage is proper dieting and a grueling regiment, not mention 9 hrs a day in construction will carve you from stone. I want you tk beleaf, and if you don't, well GL on YKUR progress, you've already created a limitation subconsciously as to what's possible and what's not... Be better than that. I answer PMs so any questions.. Fire away
