So I've read some articles about setting up a diet break and I think I could use one. I've been cutting since January 6th and have only went over maintenance 3 or 4 times. I've read about taking your temperature and if its low that is a strong indicator that you need to reset hormones and metabolism. I read an article from Lyle McDonald and in it he shows through research that for every degree lower than average temperature(97.5-98.6 degrees fahrenheit) your bmr drops 7-10%. My temperature has been 96.3-96.5. That is very low and around 1.5 degree lower than normal which means a 15% drop. anyways my question is I'm going to eat at maintenance for 2 weeks and I wanted to see if I could regain some lost strength. I squat twice a week during the cut 2x5 and I'm thinking about doing a volume day and an intensity day like the Texas method. What do you guys think would be the best way to regain some lost strength during the next 10-14 days?

someone asks him a question and around five posts down he brings up the temperature comment. Lyle is one of the smartest guys in the game. I've been reading his stuff for a few years.

In my experience.. I've gained strength while being in a prolonged deficit.. and I've also gained strength from eating at maintenance and a surplus. So I would say, yes.. you can gain strength back, but if you lost that much on your last cut, you'll probably just lose it again. What are your daily macros? At 5' 9" and 145LBs.. not sure why you are even considering being in a deficit...

that was from 3 years ago those stats. I'm 160 12%. Macros are fine. Around 160 protein, carbs 140-160 and around 40-50 grams of fat. What kind of routine do you cut with and do you have a recommendation for increasing strength over the next two weeks?

Well, you say they are fine, but I disagree. From those numbers you are telling me you consume anywhere from 1600-1730 a day.. which IMO is LOW. Also.. your fats are low, and you should at least be taking in 70G a day minimum. Protein would be fine at 130g a day, and you could use the leftover macros to up your fats/carbs. And my routine is home-made.. I've been lifting for about 20 years now, and I'm in a unique job situation, so I don't really follow routines.. I go in and just kinda do whatever I feel like doing in no specific order. And as far as increasing strength.. I always found (for me anyways) that doing 3-4 reps of no more than 4-6.. with the last rep needing a spotter, always helped me out.
