Srs though, I remember it being better then. I don't remember any height/FA/what text bish threads. At all. There was either intelligent discussion or brutal trolling and they were both awesome. I still remember my first two threads. First one I was accused of being a Tcat multi and negged red immediately.... Then I made the mistake of asking if that Cell Tech protein was really all that great. Many lulz were had by everyone but me in that thread haha.

Zyzz was the worst thing to happen to this site. He brought over all the FA 4Chan and Reddit *******s...and now this place has become like those cesspools. Zyzz was the conduit from those sh*tty places to this place. It's definitely gotten worse. Perhaps its getting better as these basement dwellers are starting to go back to their caves now...but it's still not nearly as fun/funny of a site that it used to be (pre-zyzz).

tbh you hate on 4chan/reddit but you haven't even visited either of those places yourself. Reddit is too cluttered imo and constantly crashes, the layout is trashy, and the top comment is a cheesy one-liner that gets upvoted, groups of like minded people, tons of re-posts, and the mods are quick to ban. Now the only reason I liked sorta like 4chan is because people speak their mind, there is some cringe-worthy white-knighting on some forums but /sp/ was hilarious. A lot of misc. memes come from there and they have a weapons and auto subforum that's pretty decent, and hilarious. There is a larger group of people plus people can speak their mind because you pretty much have full anonymity.

In the olden days, being a quality poster and being a troll were the same thing, merely 2 sides of the same coin. This is because Misc is based on the concept of "doing it for the lulz". Things like raiding other sites and detectiving were allowed, and the lulz produced were what made this site so great, it was almost like a magical quality the Misc possessed. Now doing anything even remotely funny or considered "trolling" will likely get you banned, which prevents you from providing lulz to the Misc community.

Another thing detracting from the quality of the forum is the increasing number of non-lifting users. If you don't lift, why are you posting here? There are dozens of sites specifically made for neckbeards to troll, Misc is one specifically made for actual lifters. The 2 L's, lift and lulz, are the foundation of the Misc.

I definitely do not remember there being this many FA's and virgins on this site. I remember years back reading some poor SOB's thread about him being 25 and still a virgin... That was unheard of 5 years ago on this site. Now it seems like at least a third of all people here aged 20+ and up are virgins. The whole FA concept itself is maybe 3 or 4 years old itself.

The misc used to be one of the best kept secrets out there...like a male locker room where all the jocks talk about the girls they've smashed, giving advice on lifting, and just generally f*cking off...Now? We got a bunch of neck-beards covering their small dicks with their dirty hands while they walk around the locker-room all awkward, staring down at their feet because they're afraid to make eye contact; and putting everyone else off.

Maybe its the fact that this site has ran its course and that its just gotten too big (unlikely). Or maybe its just the fact that more and more idiots have access to the internet and this upcoming generation is hopelessly f*cked? I never truly believed in the 80/20 rule until I visited the misc. Every now and then you'll have an epic thread like YBD's though...and that makes it worthwhile to visit this site...and there are a lot of smart individuals here. But I do NOT remember there ever being this many trolls and reds in all my years here.

There is definitely something in the theory of more idiots having access to the internet now. When I started on the misc in late 1999 (on the original boards) active posters were just a dozen or so...not the thousands of today. Back then we all knew each other, the community was small. The original misc was 98% bodybuilding related. The internet was new, crude and we were naive to it. It was a simpler time, more innocent. The real boom hit from 2002/2003 and thats when things changed forever.

5 years from now this same thread will be made and people with 2010 join dates with be the veterans and they'll speak of 2011-2014 as the GOAT years of the misc. Misc comes in cycles (like op's mom).

Ever since oh, I dunno 03-04 people have asked this same question. It's still pretty much the same. There are a few differences, ie, this new batch of miscer' with its obsession with loose women. **** is super old. Women have been sloots since the beginning of time. Get over it. There are no good trolls anymore. No epic posters such as ybd. People afraid to say what they feel.because.of the rep system. Ect.
Its still hilarious though. There's a special kind of a$$hole that's only found on these forums, and that's what keeps me coming back.

It started to decline when the whole meme trend really took off. I started to notice this in about 2002 and by about 2006 the Misc was unrecognisable to the one I first saw.

There was a time when you would always get serious replies to posts. That to me is the main reason for the decline now, posting memes and stupid lines in response to peoples posts.

On the bright side though, Misc still has its great moments and still offers something for everyone.

I would say roughly 2010, only because nightly you could still find at least one or two funny as fuark troll threads with the whole misc involved against one entity.

2012-present has been full of beta, insecure threads that guys already can answer in their own heads but need "bro" re-confirmation to feel secure, like a girl. Literally, guys have become girls and vice versa.

Came to post this. I mostly lurked the tail end of 2010 and joined 2011 misc seemed amazing. We were trolling radio stations, pof, okc, ********,etc. Misc was actually doing things. People lived for reps and as a result quality threads were created.

It got significantly worse 2 years later. Beta trash.

Found the site in late 1999 and started lurking the forums around then.

Using 56k dial up I started posting in early 2000 and at age 15 realised the fun I could have trolling (that label wasn't even invented yet) the big bodybuilders.

I invented this character called "Tower" where basically I regurgitated everything I saw on WWE wrestling.

Not blowing my own trumpet but I was one of the original 3 or so trolls of bb.com and without doubt the most notorious of the old boards, everybody hated Tower.

Highlights of my trolling were easily convincing the entire board that I had been made head mod (all I did was set up a commissioner@bodybuilders.com email and start a thread = uproar!!!! and also at the time bb.com paid $100 per month in supplements to article writers, so here I am this scrawny 15 year old who knows absolutely nothing stealing fitness related articles from elsewhere on the net, changing a few words and being a featured writer for bodybuilding.com (pulled that off for about 4 months and received lots of late 90's supps!)

This respected teen bodybuilder called Ben Crilly who had his own subsection tumbled me for stealing the articles and outed me. To get him back I signed him up in his real name to a dozen or so hardcore gay porn sites. He emailed me (he had my real name + email etc) saying that he was passing the matter over to the Police and I was in big trouble and that he was going to get me. At 15 years of age I lost every bit of colour in my face and was almost physically sick with worry. I posted on the forums how sorry I am and claimed to be really 10 years old or something. Was 100% convinced I was going to be extradited to the US to go to prison or that a bodybuilder was going to kick my front door in and kill me. Every one of my family and teachers that I looked to for comfort must have gone along with the gag and said I could really be in big trouble. I turned my P.C off at the mains and didn't touch it for a month. When I eventually switched it back on I was physically trembling thinking a message was going to appear on the screen from the Police. This happened early 01 and from then I didn't dare log on to bb.com for about 8 months, by that time they had switched to the new boards. Tower was still mentioned around here till maybe early 03 and still to then I would crap my pants.
