A good decent grinder if you haven't got one already.

Made a huge difference between buying a pound pre ground and using a chitty magic bullet.

No actually. I'm used to drip so much and I'm just starting to get into coffee and it was between the Chemex and Aeropress. The French Press seemed cool though.

I was not able to touch black coffee until I had coffee out of a Chemex rig. Ruined me for coffee. All I have access to during the day is the Keurig machine at work and it pales in comparison.

check out this JRE podcast with coffee expert Peter Giulianoa. After watching this episode I got rid of my keurig and got into higher quality coffee.






current setup: this is about as basic and low cost as it gets for brewing quality coffee. It's super portable so you can bring it to work, camping, etc. which makes it well worth the investment even if you upgrade to more expensive grinders and brewing methods.

Aeropress, Porlex grinder, and some locally roasted beans.

seriously (no hipster), but its very widely accepted that ground coffee degasses, gets stale, and loses its freshness just 15 minutes after grinding. If youre gonna buy an electric grinder, you really have to spend over $100 to make it worth it, but you can find a cheaper manual grinder like the Hario or Porlex for cheap and it only takes a minute or two to grind the beans.

You can also grind up oats and such into a fine powder for shakes as well.

A manual grinder is not a bad idea. I have been using a blade grinder and it sucks, giving me a totally inconsistent grind.

I have heard the Cuisinart burr grinder does a fair job and it's ~$45 on Amazon right now. Do you really think $100 plus is the only way to go?

San Diego brahs, I recently had the best cup of aero press ever. It was made using beans from a local roaster called Dark Horse (http://www.darkhorseroasting.com). If you haven't tried it yet, you must!

I have had aero press using coffee ground with a Porlex grinder and a Hario and both provided good results.

Hario mini mill plus French press is what I use every morning and it's perfect for me.

I try a variety of beans with a preference for blonde to medium roasts. Less bitter plus more caffeine. I haven't experimented with roasting my own yet. I have enough hobbies to invest mentally in another.

I started drinking it black because I was on a cutting diet and I grew to prefer it like that, although I do enjoy a cappuccino occasionally. Lattes are a little too much milk for my linking.
