From what I understand, I think he wants to copyright claim every video about him and he wants people to search them out and report them to his manager.

He doesn't people to monetize from them or something like that.

I believe that is what it's all about, not quite sure.

That's what I'm wondering, because that's what the Bios guy says at the end ;

"So when you guys find the videos, just cut and paste the link and mail them to Matt so that they can go there and push the copyright thing or else he can't upload the videos because they don't have copyrights, Phil does, he's in the freaking videos, right?" (He mumbled a bit, not sure if I got it exactly right).

So I guess that includes any video of MD/Flex/Fans?

I am trying really hard to like Phil as a person, but he makes it almost impossible. BS about posting more content...he just doesn't want his stuff pirated so he can make more money.

I understand it is a job for him and how he makes his living, but something has to be given back to the fans.

Interesting to see that none of the other pros seem to be that concerned and realize that getting videos out there just gets their name out there and makes them more popular.

I guess he doesn't need the buzz as he is Mr. Olympia, but honestly, he just really hard to like personally.

Great point, except for the whole "can't really blame him". Yes you can...he is not even making a smart business move. So he can make some small, if any, gains immediately, he is gonna impact his popularity even more in a negative way.

He can do like Kai and upload everything on Youtube, Kai, MuscleMeds and Mike uploaded every of Kai's DVD (which you can still buy, I think) and "train with", etc., and if you search on Youtube, there's like 10 different uploaders for each of his DVDs and they've been there for years.

More uploaders -> more contacts/circles -> more exposure -> free advertisement. It's a win-win situation, I think Phil's move is not good for him.

If it means less **** being copied and uploaded time and time again meaning to find new content you have to really search your ass off then sweet. I'm sick of having to scroll through the same vids one after another that you know have been uploaded by the same slimey **** just to watch a new vid.

I agree he owes nothing to the fans, you support him because you like him and if he can he'll give back but there should be no obligation, but he's cutting off a lot of channels of distribution, doesn't seem very smart

Copyrights and trademarks are really tricky stuff and sometimes you're practically forced to shut down other people. I don't see any real harm with him wanting his own proper channel though, he is the main content of whoever spread those videos.

If he's talking about his movies than I completely agree. But if it's the MD/Flex videos I would gladly take help take them down if he would upload them, I find the Flex player to be extremely slow.

I doubt he's doing it for the youtube money, as the amount you get paid is very little for views most of the money comes from t-shirts/merch which Phil already has covered. But having all the videos in a centralized source would be a good thing.

Well try to understand this...he is a public figure in a niche sport. He is pissing a LOT of people off doing this to make MARGINAL financial gain.

MOST of his income comes from sponsorships. He WILL be more liked and popular if he gives back MORE to the fans, rather then LESS.

So while I understand what he is trying to do (while I don't agree with it no matter the angle), he is actually shooting himself in the foot even if we are just talking finances.
