Check out Charles Saucier. His instagram handle is charlessaucier. His work is top notch. Anam who works at the Kustom Kulture (insta: tattoos_by_anam), and Luka Lajoie (lukalajoie) are also solid.

Advice on long back to back sessions?
Found plenty of the usual 'eat, take something sugary, don't be hungover/on drugs' etc, which is all good advice, yet haven't found anyone talking about long sessions back to back.
Has anyone on here got some personal experience with this?
I have 3 back to back sessions in early march and looking for advice. Prob looking at 30 hrs plus under the needle in a 3 day period. I suspect that each consecutive day gets steadily worse and more unbearable..
    Cheers

In for advice. Getting my whole front panel done over 2 days in Jan. Never sat for more than 4.5 hours at a time, let alone on the torso.
Edit: I've heard good things about the Hush Anaesthetic products. Any of you lads have experience/knowledge about that stuff?

    Andy,

I also read about these products too..cant imagine too many people will recommend them, partly because they wear off after 1-2 hours, secondly I have heard they make the skin harder to work on and last id imagine on the bigger pieces, esp back to back they would hurt like hell on freshly inked skin..

    xslick,

I like the fine line work on this piece. One reason I don't personally like Asian work esp. Japanese is the fat black line work which seems to dominate. You turning this piece into something bigger? how many hours to go? What was your experience like?

    Cheers

Outline looks ok. I would have did the chest plate too.

Strong unaware of elements in Japanese tattooing. Perportedly doesn't want Japanese. Wants Chinese/Asian tattoo and ends up getting a Japanese style tattoo anyhow, lol.

I have noticed the same thing. At first I really like the finer line work too. Over time I have grown to like the "fatter" outlines for two reasons. First, Japanese tattoo are generally big so fatter line work is ok. Helps makes it look bolder from further away. Second, allows for some areas to have extreme detail within the tattoo overall. This creates that contrast.

If you look at some of the full body suit tattoos you will see both smaller and fatter line work within the same tattoo depending on the effect the tattooer is going for.

oh I didn't mean I think Japanese work should have fine line work. I understand within the genre why they do have such bold line work (Japanese pieces are large etc), just personal preference for the thinner more detailed line-work. I think xslick was going for Asian style rather than traditional Japanese, which is y thinlines may work, but I concede on the big traditional style Japanese pieces that fat, bold line work is a staple and should remain so..

I just got this piece because it symbolizes something personal to me. One day I will do a giant piece on my entire back. My experience was ok. I showed up at 12pm expected the artist to have my design and to get started right away. But he actually just started drawing it out when I was there. 2 hours later, after drawing it up and everything, we actually got started tattooing. The first few lines, I thought "wtf did I get myself into" because it was hurting so much. After a few minutes, the pain subsides and I really didn't feel anything. Some parts, like the lotus on my bicep and the part by my armpit hurts the most.

The style I have looks very similar to Japanese traditional, however, it's more of just traditional Asian style. Japanese style has really bold and strong background. Hard to explain, but it's similar to traditional Japanese, however, it's just traditional Asian/Chinese with a tint of Japanese. It will be more clear once the shading is done.

Anyways, I put tegaderm patches to cover the whole thing, had to use 4 patches of 6x8, and there are a lot of air bubbles. I'm wondering if that's ok? Did a pretty bad job putting it on since it was my first time.

    xslick,

count yourself lucky. I rocked up to my first session, spent 5 hrs going over idea's planning, organizing etc and then went back to the hotel while he drew it up. IMO though the tattoo is much better for it, it's much better to get the artist/client input on the piece in person and much better for them to draw it up with info and the image of your arm in mind.
keep the thread up dated...and I bet top of the shoulder hurt like hell, at least I know mine did..though I was 8 hrs into a 10-11 hour sitting by then and just about anything would have hurt

Just sent my artist an idea for a leg sleeve. Genghis Khan riding at the front of his horde. Should be a great piece, starting in the next 5-10 yrs or so. If you don't already no, im covering myself with historical figures. so far lined up Hannibal, Caesar, Saladin, Genghis Khan, was thinking of horatio nelson and queen Victoria but undecided on these yet. Still looking for ideas to put on right sleeve and left leg..any suggestions would be welcome.
