It matters because it makes a huge difference in how people are perceived.

People with drug problems aren't born with drug problems, they develop them. If you fuk up your life with drugs, not too many people will see you as a victim because that's a conscious choice that you made.

That's why the gay community is pushing "I am born this way" so hard. If they made a choice to be gay, many people would no longer have sympathy. If they are born gay, it's no longer their fault - it would be no different than being a certain race.

The truth is that we don't know whether homosexuality is a genetic or learned trait. And for either side to say they KNOW without a doubt is blasphemous. Personally, I believe it's learned. I remember being very young and I saw a naked woman on TV and I was repulsed (I covered my eyes). The same thing would have happened if I saw a naked man. It wasn't until puberty that I started liking women. I was attracted to the swimsuit models in magazines because that's what society said I was supposed to be attracted to. I had pressure from friends, media, family, and society to find that type of woman attractive. If I lived in another culture, I may have found a different type of woman to be the most attractive. People rebel against societal standards all the time; maybe gay people are just sexual rebels.

Despite my belief that homosexuality is learned, I still argue for gay's rights. They should have all the rights I have as a straight man.

And btw, I hated broccoli even just 5 years ago and now I love it. Aside from the known genetic traits (height, hair, eyes, etc) I'm a firm believer that you can change just about anything else. Bodybuilding is a prime example.
