Looks like the P-3 Orions might have found something.

If true, it makes me proud. I was in a P-3C squadron in my youth, VP-9, based out of NAS Moffett Field CA.

    Okay, I'm not.

The debris location makes sense with those red arcs we've been seeing all week. And they were looking at the bottom of the southern one, based on what, who knows. The jet never did get picked up on any radar to the north and there is no radar to the south.

Hope they find enough of it to tell what went on. Everyone's theory of a fire onboard are looking pretty good.

This is a very hostile body of water and the weather is not cooperating. Debris can drift quickly, hundreds of miles in one day and not all the debris will follow the same swatch of current. Australia was up with their AP-3C Orion so we'll see what they come up with.

The area is 1400 miles off the Aussie coast. The Aus navy has done several rescues of sailors over the years in that area, so they know the area well. But sadly, if it is the Malaysian plane, I don't think they will be doing any rescues. It will be a recovery exercise. They estimate the size of the objects spotted were about 30 odd metres in length. Australian Navy has despatched a ship with heavy lifting equipment.

I happen to think that the news reports about something 'nefarious' happening, seem right. Creepy, a plane just poof...vanishes.

I've been think about how accurate the time-line has been when things went on, especially with plotting the new course. That was in the middle of daylight savings time and a matter of who observes it and who doesn't, what equipment automattically adjusts for it and those that have to be set manually. So there may be a disconnect between when things went on and when they THINK they went on.

I'll still say that there was probably a fire that they were battling and between the new course setting and getting close to a suitable landing site all onboard were already dead.

Some experts I heard this morning were saying they hope it is the plane so it can give families closure. I am not so sure. It may be the plane, but I kind of wish the plane was landed somewhere with everyone still aboard and ok and waiting for rescue. But, that is not realistic.

There was a witness who allegedly saw the plane just below the clouds, very low. He said for about 10 to 15 seconds, it was on fire.

I'm traveling to Germany in a couple of weeks and I have zero worry about pilot suicide. I wouldn't worry about Tahiti either. You going on Air Tahiti Nui? I have heard good things about them.

On a related note there was an article (B B C I think) about a Qantas pilot with suicidal thoughts who had to use one hand to stop the other from turning off the engines in flight. He was evaluated and allowed to keep flying. I think he has since retired.
I was watching Fox News the other night--I generally dislike Fox but they featured a piece about political correctness playing a part in impeding the Malaysian Air investigation. I agree on that point. NO mention whatsoever about the possibility of Islam-associated terrorism. How come nobody has questioned both pilots' friends and families, etc. about their religious beliefs and ideals? There's been very little forthcoming about the pilots.

I just don't buy that. For 7 hours the plane was flying off course.

Not to change the subject, but Fox News is the only outlet that challenges the admin. All others suck up. If we all listened to MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS, we would be brainwashed into believing Obama is a god. A lot of people already do.

What does a fisherman somewhere allegedly seeing the plane have to do with flying off course? There are people on course and off course.

There was another similar plane down that they blamed on lithium batteries. And, supposedly this flight had lithium batteries in the cargo. Not much detail as to how the hell the lithum caused a problem, but it was on the news, so it must be true.

There was an issue with fires from lithium-ion batteries on the 787 Dreamliner late last year and it grounded all the planes for a while. Figured they'd not look into what was being used on the 777 and other planes?

Only the Dreamliner uses those batteries - because they are lighter than the traditional ones used in the 777 and other models. Incidentally, the competing Airbus A-350, also largely carbon composite, switched over from lithion-ion to the old batteries after the 787 fire.

Other things can cause fires. The Valuejet crash in the Everglades was due to oxygen canisters in the hold and an SwissAir MD-11 crashed off Nova Scotia after a fire (I think it was wiring). But they had radio contact with controllers, as these guys should have even if there was a fire. To me, it all points to deliberate pilot action as the most plausible explanation.
    Peace: Lift Long and Prosper!

I have to agree with Doc on this one. Most plausible explanation is deliberate Pilot action.

I had read that they were carrying lithium-ion batteries as cargo, not sure what they were designated for. Maybe a little dis-information perhaps? So far no sign of the debris that was spotted the other day.

I read that and heard it, too. Also, as everyone knows by now, the latest satellite sightings are a bust, unless what was seen sank. More searching continues in that area.

Kind of proves to me how baffled the search effort is. First they seemed to be scouring thousands of miles northwest of Malaysia. Then it was thousands of miles in the other direction.

I hate to say it but I think it's gonna be miraculous if they find it. And if they do, I don't see anything concluded. I'm sure that Malaysian Air will go to great lengths to deny that the pilot had anything to do with it.

I'm sure the searchers are gonna be MUCH more cautious about suggesting discoveries after this latest bust. The victims' families are probably despondent by now.

If they find the black boxes--they can pretty much know exactly what happened. Those boxes contain everything from speeds, altitudes, descent angles, steered directions, fuel levels, as well as cockpit conversations, and they also can say at exactly what time specific devices or systems failed (if there was a fire or something). If they simply find the debris field but no black boxes, it would be much harder. Basically might be able to ascertain the angle the plane went into the water, but that's about it.

I'm suspect about the time-line with everything and it was right in the middle of the change to daylight savings... depending on who compensated for it and who didn't in that neck of the woods.

just got a post from ******** that it was some ARAB PRINCE hijacked the plane for his collection...what a useless fake post...it had a video but didnt bother downloading this hoax

Also it seems that there is satellite mapping information available to (guess who) but they will give out blurry images because of national security ....wink wink - if the images were delayed 3 days from when the plane was reported missing makes you think that someones has an idea just wont bother to say..."not our jurisdiction" blah blah

6 miles under water most likely.

I would say so myself... maybe 4 miles though. The Chinese are at it again with satellite images, the French and Aussies have some now too. The plane rides from Perth are 8 hours out, 8 hours back giving them 2 hours to search, if the weather cooperates. This is one of the most inhospitable pieces of the ocean. Australia has now located some pieces from a plane that they're tracking, we'll have to see what they reel in.

Got a little break here in the morning. Just saw on the net that the Malaysian Prime Minister has definitively said that the air-liner was lost in the Indian Ocean, and that there are no possible survivors, e-mailing condolences to family members of the passengers. What a pitiful, tragic thing!

So they must have positively identified some debris.
