Hey brahs,
So me and my real life brah want to go halves in some home gym equipment, mainly a full power rack set up with a quick action dumbbell set, or something similar.
My question is, we have a patio outside and this is where we are thinking of setting the equipment up. The equipment will be exposed to the elements but will only get wet if the rain comes at angles (which can happen occasionally).
Recon that's a good idea? Is there specific equipment we could buy for this? Maybe coat the equipment in weather proofing or something?

I'd find an inexpensive used rack and repaint it with rattle can bedliner. It'll be thicker and more durable than regular paint.

If I remember correctly, Rogue has stated that while the rack could develop some rust, especially inside the rack since it's not coated, the structural integrity won't be compromised and will still outlast you.
Personally, I wouldn't keep all my equipment outside though. If anything, store it in a storage like seen in the last pic below.
Not my pics.

These are good ideas if OP is serious about this.
I don't like the idea of iron out in the elements.
I'm not surprised. The racks will rust on the outside from wear. I left a painted EFS 3x3 upright outside for years (was drilled improperly, so no loss) & it held up well, but rusted through the paint. The inside obviously had a small layer of rust.
I'm not sure what coating they'd use, but water will find a way in. I don't believe rogue. They won't rust immediately, but in years, that nice paint will be ruined.
That's not koshure advice imho, but hey, equipment rusting out / ruining the finish is another way to drum up business.Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59

Thanks for the tips.
Ideally we would have the equipment inside but we both still live with the parents and there is no room!
I think having a little storage shed for the plates and dumbbells would help with longevity, however the rack will still be exposed. Keep in mind, it's rare that the rack would actually get wet or be exposed to large amounts of rain, and it would be shaded for most of the day as well. I might try posting up a pic of the area we are thinking of putting it

I didn't say they advised people to leave them outside. I said I believed they said that the rack's strength would not be compromised by the rust. However, I'm not speaking on their behalf so if you'd like to know their official stance, I'd ask them.
I'm not sure what type of paint/coating they use on their racks but I bet it would (eventually) suffer if left outside. I have a 2 x 2 (11 gauge) weight tree that was left outside for several years. Paint wore off but it's still tough as nails and currently holding around 600 Lbs.

Rust can be a problem even in a dry climate. I live in the Phoenix area. I considered putting a rack out on one of my patios but decided against it as I know that things do rust if left out on the patio. It's also quite dusty in AZ; any equipment left outdoors will be covered with a layer of dust or dirt in no time.
