    Cybex squat press

    Hi folks,

hi have a shot at a cybex squat press for a good price. The question is for anyone who owns one, is it possible to take this down to a basement with a 32 inches door and 36 inches stair case or it is too wide? Thanks for your help!

I would really like to know the answer to this as well! You're talking about the 5235 correct?

I assume you are talking about this:

    http://www.gympart.com/TSB/Cybex/Pla...%20Diagram.pdf

    I have this machine.

At a minimum, the weight horn/ tube would have to be disassembled. If nothing else is taken apart The widest part of the frame is 31.5 inches. That is at the front of the frame where the foot of the Squat Press could be bolted into the floor if someone wanted too.

so if i understand correctly it would fit tight into a 32 inches door if only the weigth horn/tube is disassembled? If we disassembled more parts it would fit easier?

It would be a tight fit. The frame is one solid welded piece. Even if you disassembled it and took off the foot plate and the shaft it pivots on, you would not gain anything. Where the shaft goes through is also a part of one solid frame. If you measure from the floor to where shaft pivots, it is even wider. So taking the foot plate and seat off and flipping it on the side would not help.

    Hope that makes sense.

If you could get the narrow end inside the door and then rotated it in either direction, that could be option if no walls come into play.

No first hand experience tearing that machine down.... But I would think it would work. I got a roger pendulum hip press through a 29" door and 36" basement.

But I did have a couple drywall casualties..... That were minor to repair.

The cybex foot plate / weight horns look more compact than the Rogers. The issue looks more lie the measurement from the floor to the connection point of the foot plate.

You can pull the whole machine apart if you have some snap ring pliers I have done it before.

It should fit, I had to fit one through my old basement door. qaz is correct get a cheap snap ring plier set at Harbor Freight Tools. You can take the whole thing apart easily. The weight horns are held by 1 bolt on each side. The leg pendulum has a few snap ring connections with long pins that run through it.

Thanks everyone for your imput! I am waiting for the guy to respond back. If he does not or if we cant agree on a price i will buy one someday when it shows up again on craigslist. If i take it apart, i will have the frame powdered coat in silver so it will fit the other equipment in my gym. I already own a 45 degree leg press but nothing beats a pivot press. much smoother!

tell me about the refinishing. Do you have to remove the existing paint? I have a new power lift ghd and a cybex squat press on the radar. Both are white which I hate. I would like to paint them. How much do you think ballpark it would be to refinish these?

Yes, you have to remove the old paint (powder coat). Soooo, you can do it youself with chemical strippers. Rust-o-leum aircraft remover is good, but it's expensive. Or get it sandblasted. Make sure they use a fine material, because you don't want it to come out too rough. Then send to powder coat. Sandblast is usually like $100-150/hour, but it's fast. I did a whole inverse curl for $75. Powder coat is around $3/sq.ft.

So for doing a cybex squat press, about how much would it be to sandblast and powder coat?

Location will play a large part. Some places in the US you could have that blasted and coated for $50-75. Some places would be double that.

One more question for the current owners. If I remove the weight horns and foot plate do you think this would fit into the back of my Honda Pilot? Anybody want to take a few measurements for me? specifically the size of the base, and the size of the foot plate. I'd appreciate it!
