    AF447 and this will be the 2 largest events in the last 5+ years of aviation safety though & both involved modern aircraft (competing models) from well respected carriers carrying passengers from various countries.

    Both have/had an incredible search effort/response from many countries.

    However, yes this is becoming one of the most mysterious aviation events of our time. I'm positive we will have something by the end of the week, it's so bizarre and tfw everyone around the world is constantly refreshing their phone/browser for updates.

    The ACARS sent some data but there was no distress call. They didn't know it had been lost until it didn't show up on Senegalese control.

    And it still took 5 days to find the wreckage.

    I'm in Australia and was 12 when it happened & remember it well as it was huge news down here too. Images of the floating pieces and the bay on fire were surreal.

    I don't think anyone can say with 100% certainty what happened, but centre fuel tanks have exploded before in similar circumstances and the effort to rebuild the wreckage was unbelievable. They use it for training NTSB staff now I believe & the investigation was one of the most intensive from the agency.

    I strongly beleive the plane was hijacked and shot down by a fighter. Its understandable why they would do this and also understandable why they would cover it up. I have already seen a few videos soon after the crash were smaller craft can been seen on radar closely tailing the 777 just before its dissappearance.

    Eyewitness testimony is unreliable, it's one one of the lowest forms of evidence. Mostly due to the fact that people are in general poor observers.

    Take the supposed missile launch that thousands of people in California thought they saw a few years ago one evening which was all over the news for a week. That turned out to be a passenger plane heading towards the coast with its contrail lit up by the setting sun. This gave the illusion of a missile/rocket going straight up. I'm sure there were lots of credible witness in that group too.

    There is no such thing as a professional observer. People make poor observations all the time, and they do it in masses too.

    what rustled my jimmies about the 447 crash was that the plane was at 100% thrust at the moment it hit the ground, and was only going ~100 knots forward. they literally dropped like a brick with the nose pointed up

    There was an upward trajectory because the plane was ascending...

    No one is saying those people are lying, just that what they witnessed was not consistent with a missile and was consistent with the fuel ignition. No radar contacts intersected with the airplane.

    Lol at all the conspiracy theorists coming out. Clearing the plane lost communication and tried to back track to airport to emergency land. Plane must have gone way off track. I presume the pilots navigation failed and plane crashed way of course somewhere.

    That flight^ had time for a mayday but then disregarded engineer assistance and passed out because the idiots misdiagnosed a pressure warning and not one of them bothered to mask up. It's not too hard to imagine numerous similar situations involving a power failure or pressure circuit malfunction which ends the same but without the distress call.
    Not talking about the example you gave, but from how I understand it, if there is a small ish hole in the plane that causes a depressurization there is a chance that everyone is unconscious before the gages reach the threshold for the masks to drop.

    Earlier on Tuesday, Malaysia's Berita Harian newspaper quoted air force chief Rodzali Daud as saying the Malaysia Airlines plane was last detected by military radar at 2:40 A.M. on Saturday, near the island of Pulau Perak at the northern end of the Strait of Malacca. It was flying at a height of about 9,000 metres, he was quoted as saying.

    If the reports from the military are verified, it would mean the plane was able to maintain a cruising altitude and flew for about 500 km with its transponder and other tracking systems apparently switched off.

    Gonna be interesting to see how this ends up.


    even with rapid decompression you still have many seconds to be coherent enough to grab the oxygen masks. a slower decompression will give you even more time. the threshold is set when the pressure gets below life sustaining/significant deoxygenation of the blood, it would be fully potato to set the threshold to drop the masks after the baro pressure is lower than life sustaining. lol.

    i am almost convinced of highjacking now

    the plane would not turn around if they lost communication as they would not be able to communicate with the air traffic controller that they came from, so that would be a useless thing to do

    then we have the observer who saw it flying low and then the second observer who saw it flying low 15 minutes later, tells me it was trying to avoid radar and not dropping out of the sky
