Awww OP's first college paper and now he thinks he is an expert because he read a few wiki articles and went to the library between keg parties.
I ONLY HAVE FOUR QUESTIONS FOR YOU MISTER
What is your definition of disease?
At what level of excess weight do you consider someone obese?
Do you believe that this disease is self inflicted?
Do you feel that the treatment should be something other than proper diet and exercise?

Skepticism is the chastity of the intellect, and it is shameful to surrender it too soon or to the first comer: there is nobility in preserving it coolly and proudly through long youth, until at last, in the ripeness of instinct and discretion, it can be safely exchanged for fidelity and happiness

In humans, "disease" is often used more broadly to refer to any condition that causes pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems, or death to the person afflicted, or similar problems for those in contact with the person. Das it mane.

the MAJORITY of people get lung cancer because of smoking. notice how I specifically mention smokers not the random person who gets lung cancer which is a MINORITY.
exactly my point with cvd. the same factors that lead to obesity also lead to cvd with the exception of one group has more fat than the other.Instagram: hyruliangoat_

exactly. at the same time however, i would argue that lack of empathy and sympathy is a major reason why treatment fails for obese people in regards to continual weight loss and overall improvement.
1) not my first paper. 2)i dont drink never have in my life but thanks
3)whatever the number is for obese
4) definiton has been posted above many times
5)for the majority yes that does not mean it is not a disease. see my arguments above
6) yes drugs and therapy.

I put it down to the fact that smoking + sedentary = increased risk
it's increasing a chance
Eating consistently in a caloric surplus is and will factually adding more adipose tissue. With every other disease you can do things to decrease risk, but with obesity you can literally have control of it 100% (of course some outliers)
Control of your 'disease' vs Manipulating risk percentages (ultimately it's out of your hands, unlike obesity)New Zealand Crew

Dis-ease : meaning 'dat schit ain't right'.
By definition, any malady that prevents normal operation of the body is a 'disease'. That would include alcoholism, broken bones, and yes - obesity.
I think a lot of people here are confusing the word disease with 'illness' which has a somewhat different meaning."Listen here you beautiful bitch, I'm about to fuk you up with some truth." -me

it doesn;t matter who's fault it is. childhood obesity is a severe problem as well. and there are kids who despite physical activity changes develop complications from being obese.
SIGNIFICANTLY increasing your chance. Getting obese also SIGNIFICANTLY increases your chance for other diseases it is not a gaurantee. so not sure where you are going with this point.
yes you can lower the amount of fat you hold but that many times does not stop the problems developed from being fat (the secondary ones)

I know that obesity significantly increases your chances for other diseases, but i'm solely focused on obesity being the only disease that we ultimately have control over. Where as with all the others you can just improve your chances of not getting. I do know on paper it's a disease, but it's a very a typical disease due to the fact that it is voluntarily brought upon yourself.

no laziness is not a disease.
fair enough. at least that is a reasonable claim and I can underfstand why you would side with that.
you are a disaease
i understand your point now but I still would not use that as teh reason to exclude obesity from the definition.Instagram: hyruliangoat_

Awww OPs 2nd college paper and he thinks he knows everything there is to know because he mastered google between playing xbox and miscing .
While I have always known it was a disease (one in which I suffered from ...see sig) I have problems with you asserting that a disease caused by life style choices shouldn't be treated by correcting those lifestyle choices.
Proper diet and exercise should be the treatment for this disease, a cocktail of side effect causing drugs can't compare to proper nutritional education and proper exercise.
A persons inability to stick with a habit shouldn't mean the treatment is ineffective ...it means the person is weakSkepticism is the chastity of the intellect, and it is shameful to surrender it too soon or to the first comer: there is nobility in preserving it coolly and proudly through long youth, until at last, in the ripeness of instinct and discretion, it can be safely exchanged for fidelity and happiness
