Obviously, we expect the media to get nothing correct on this topic, and they don't disappoint! However, the Registered Dietician (RD) they interview also does a first class job of showing why RD's tend to have a poor reputation among so many as being less than educated on the topics they give advice on.
I give you example #1...NOW, I don't condone teens using creatine per se, but not for ANY of the reasons listed by this short clip, as there's not a shred of accurate info in it. What ever RD programs are putting out RDs like this - who apparently can't take 10 mins to actually look at the piles of existing data - do not have degrees worth the paper they are printed on....2014, and they still can't seem to "get it" ...

Par for the course with the media. I mean Dr. Oz pimps garbage constantly based primarily on who pays him to pimp. I think the funniest part of the news snippet was that nothing happened to spark the actual creatine attack. No one died or anything. It's like they just walked in one day and said, "It's a light news day, we need to attack a supplement or something that teenagers might use. Let's go after creatine!"

lolz at the news
lolz at the RD
As someone being in the health profession and soon to become RD..this is embarrassing. The lady did not even do due diligence and research the topic.
You are right, she didn't do her research.
There are NUMEROUS studies showing that creatine is safe to use.
She is saying too much is harmful..well no ****, a lot of nutrients/foods are harmful in high doses. Moderation is key.
It's sad she even agreed to do this..SMH
I am embarrassed for her because she is just making our profession look bad.**B.S. in Nutrition and Food Science**

^This.
Most Dietetics programs do not require any courses involving nutritional supplements, so this is actually outside of their expertise in a sense (when I did my undergrad in Dietetics I made an effort to learn about them on my own). It is up to the individual to take elective courses that focus more on kinesiology/exercise prescription/pharmacology/etc to learn about supplements.
At the same time, you could point the finger at most physicians who tell you creatine or protein is bad for your kidneys as well. It's not just RDs...
Also, you spelled Dietitian wrong OP.

The problem is that creatine is a gateway supplement. It could lead young men down a dark path of taking very dangerous supplements, like Deer Antler Velvet and Tribulus...
**Eat lots and lots of birds. The smaller the bird, the more compact its protein content. Parrots are great sources for protein.**

On a cold Friday afternoon, I had come home from school. I had been thinking of the gym all day. I was hungry, didn't have any lunch. In fact, I didn't eat because I spent the money. For the past month I was saving up for something. Something special which I bought at GNC. I was surprised they didn't ask for ID; I was pretty sure the cashier noticed how nervous I was. Anyways, my mom asked me how my day was when I got home, but I ignored her. I have more important things to do. I run to the bathroom and unpack my bag. In my school bag is a white plastic bag from GNC. I open the bag, first removing the receipt and flushing it down the toilet to get rid of the evidence. My heart was racing now. I unpack the creatine monster from the bag.
I wonder what people will be asking me when they see that I will be 50lbs heavier. Should I say I was just eating a lot? I remove the label from the tub and tear it into a thousand small pieces. I flush that down the toilet, too. It is time now. I run up to my room when my mom ask me what I am holding. I panic, sweat drips down my forehead and my teeth chatter. "Mom, it's just for a school project". "What project?" "I don't know mom I just started it!". A tear runs down my cheek. I run upstairs and open the creatine, scooping up servings into a clear water bottle. What have I gotten myself into? I fill it with water and drink it. There is no turning back now. The creatine monster is inside me now, it will control me. What should I do if I die? I cant let my family know about this.
I open the creatine tub and throw it all out the window; a white cloud of mysterious dust sparkles into the wind so graciously. I feel the substance taking control of me; I am now the monster. I walk downstairs, its time to work out; time to get big. Now I worry, I don't want to get too big; people will think I use steroids. I do use steroids. No I don't. Creatine. All I see is the weights now, I am almost downstairs when I hear "Do you want a cookie I just baked". I know I do not have time for this **** now. "No mom I do not want a cookie" I walk in the basement and drop to my knees before the weights, tears running down my cheeks. I turn to the right and look at myself in the mirror. Oh god, what have I done?

Ignorance? Everyone of her scary side effects have been looked and fully debunked via the studies to date, yet she, and the ilk, don't apparently bother to read it. That does not bode well for the profession in my view.
I do, and here's the links you need to see those studies and get the info needed to be informed on the topic. There's many potential health benefits of creatine people are unaware of and can read up on that in my series on BB.com HERE or as a free PDF HERE.BrinkZone, Where Bro-Science Got Rabies and Died!
