Maybe I'm missing something but why is less adjustability in the bench range a more desireable characteristic? These both seem like good alternatives for the R3 and the Rep Fitness looked like it has a UPS ground shipping option which which I assume would be easier to ship to home addesses. I have a price inquiry into Dynamic to see how much the Gladiator is.

I have 1" spacing. I still feel it's over-rated.
I don't know if I would mind so much if all holes were labeled, but it makes the rack look like swiss cheese.
I also don't notice any benefit. I never had issues with 1.5" spacing (I find this to be the sweet spot) for either benching, squatting or really any other movement. If pressing / unracking the bar 0.5" to 1.0" more out of the rack is a problem, but we clearly won't agree here.
Oh, they are. The swing-in is even worse. Half the time, it's not level. It's really difficult to eyeball which hole is which when installing them.Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59

I have an R3 - I have zero issues with the 1" spacing. I bought a pack of colored electrical tape and I tape next to the holes...blue for bench, white for squat, orange for military presses, etc. Works as the same thing as numbering the holes to me. You can kinda see the tape in my pictures: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...post1208214161

I can't wait to get a rack w/ numbered holes (NEVER HAD THIS!). I'd have about 6 chalk lines, so I'd have issues remembering which is which is. Then I'd need chalk lines for the safeties. I hate it.
If you have specialty bars, there's too many height adjustments. I squat low bar, use bars like the safety squat bar, competition style bench, close grip w/ regular bar, close grip with swiss & they all need their own height, more or less. The 1" actually becomes counter productive as I'd rather press an extra inch than half the change the height of the J-cups for a 2nd or 3rd time.Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59

I'm not far from Dynamic and have seen their stuff. Guy showed me a couple of different numbering systems on some prototypes but I'm not sure what is used on the full production model. I think they may be laser cut. It would be best to ask him since I could be wrong. This is on their ******** page...
Each part travels through our automated mechanical descaling process where flash rust, weld splatter, and all mill, laser edge, and weld scale is removed exposing only the substrate of the material. Our mechanical descaling process provides a superior surface where the powder paint topcoat adheres directly to the base metal. Furthermore this process reduces the amount of stress in the weld areas relaxing each joint.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #32 []---[] ()---() York Barbell Club #43 ()---() ▉---▉ Equipment Crew #50 ▉---▉

I will say that Guy has been extremely responsive. H said on the Gladiator they have laser cut numbering every 5 holes. Color choice was no additional cost but there was no option to cut the rack down to 84".
Valid point. To be honest since I am just starting out I was really only looking at stuff that would keep my meddling hands mostly out of the decision making process.

I have the Rep Fitness Fort rack and have been happy with it. I originally wanted the 1" spacing but haven't noticed any issues without it. So far I'm pretty happy with the rack. If I wasn't a few hours away from their location I probably would have order the R3. It would be nice to have the holes numbered but really haven't had any issues if I'm changing lifts and need to move the jhooks around.

This is because they don't have holes going all the way up the upright in front (to cut costs). There's a gap with no holes, and cutting it down would require adding more holes. Kind of crappy design, no offense. Adding those holes right off the bat would add maybe $1-2 to each upright. Even less on large batches.

About 7.73.
Exactly. When I get a new rack, I'll be damned if I don't have laser cut numbers. It's crazy in this day and age not to have milled or laser cut numbers. 1.5" spacing is bad enough, number wise. 1" is a nightmare.
If it works for you, awesome. I just see it as even more holes I won't use.
I guess if people who like it fall into that line of 1.5 is just a hair off, then 1" works.
I also have a preference for a larger dowel size. After deaing with TSS & 3/8" dowels, I want nothing less than 1/2" if not 1".Crews: Ivanko Barbell Crew #52, York Barbell Club #95, Equipment Crew #59

It surprises me that they said no to resizing. Maybe it's mostly a matter of price. It was my understanding they also do custom fabrication and powder coating... though it might be a sister company with different management.

The photos look like the same building that I visited. Mech, they have an equipment list at that link.Last edited by morebarbell; 03-05-2014 at 11:16 AM.
