This is my 3rd journal on here, the two previous ones focused solely on fat loss / bodybuilding yet with a strength training approach through GST to begin with and then 5/3/1, which I performed 14 cycles of.
The old journal is here: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=146965543
I got pretty fcked up around July / August last year. A complete lack of effort on my part in terms of mobility, stretching and general pre hab work led to me having a few partial tears here and there, namely a QL sprain, my right long head bicep tendons fried and pretty much most of the rotator cuff group saying screw you. Along with this I then suffered with severe glute tightness (steady on there) causing problems in my hams and further pain in my back along with making my hips tighter than a nuns chuff. I ended up having about 14 sessions of physio along with dedicating myself to getting my mobility back and to stop being as flexible as a stick of spaghetti. I did this through various mobility drills, self massage, foam and lacrosse massage and a few yoga positions (pigeon pose is the chit for anyone with hip tightness).
Over the time period, I went from being pretty lean at 172lb to hunky chunky today at about 196lb. This was mainly through a lower training output, eating more and feeling sorry for myself. Basically acting like a huge minge. It has also done me good though I think, because I was getting pretty bad with the whole body dysmorphia thing and now that I look back at how I looked at 172lb I realize I was in banging shape but at that time I felt fat and like I needed to work harder and harder. If I get myself halfway between the two stages, I'll be happy with that.
Plus I love beer and I stopped drinking it for wayyy too long.
So I have had a bit of hiatus from this site for a while mainly because I wasn't training to make progress, I was training to get BACK to being able to make progress... I did my first cycle of the Cube Method and did the Week 10 mock meet this weekend passed. It went very well with me hitting the numbers I planned to, I used a pretty low training max mainly because I was trying to avoid further injury. There was some ups and downs during the first few waves but things got better and better with injuries rarely flaring up much.
Mock Meet at 198lb
I aimed to get 150kg / 130kg / 190kg but I stuck an extra 5kg on squats. The bench I believe was a paused PR, I have pressed a sloppy 140kg before but I don't think I've paused 130kg. Slight uneven press but I have a front and side angle, the front looks much nicer. I was happy anyway. My all time PR's are 165kg / 130kg (paused) / 200kg so this next cycle now that I am less crippled I plan to progress past these.
So jump in a follow the ride, I appreciate the support. My last logs have always had a good bit of banter thrown in so hopefully this will be the same.

Basically He Who Must Not Be Named made a video about the "Jason Blaha Ordeal". Jason did a response, I posted it and simultaneously managed to rustle a few jimmies in another thread.
No worries man, I like your videos a lot, i credit you for helping me to build some strength and muscle ( i did your 5x5 routine as a noob).
Body dismorphia sucks, i hope you get over it, i don't think you look bad at all ( no homo)adde parvum parvo magnus acervus erit.

Yeah I watched that video, I think he did the right thing. I would do it to if I was in his position as a professional. You have professional vs Joe Bloggs with a camera and internet connection. You have to protect what feeds your family.
I don't watch any of the "fake natty" videos, I think they're a waste of time and a pointless exercise directed at the spread of hate and jealousy. The only videos of his I watch are the ones where he answers decent questions. For all you know he could be reading of a cue card with key notes. If I had said from the start that I was a top coach in my area and that I did this and that and just read from sources, no reason why people wouldn't believe me too. I'm not saying that is the case of course, just saying that people are quick to lap up someones heavily biased opinions based on their "experience".
The way I see it is this: If some pro is trying to sell you anything, take with a pinch of salt and use your brain. If people are dumb enough to believe "miracle powder X" will make them 220lb shredded manlet over night, they deserve taking for all they have... one for being a lazy kunt and two for being so short sighted... at least then once stung they might think twice next time."Ain't nothing to it but to do it"

There'll be another at the end of the cycle, I won't be able to have any music on though - they shut me down for it lol :-(
Apparently if I had been watching the Live Event control room I would have seen the warnings then I could have turned music off (or mic) and kept streaming. It was a good laugh and a really good confidence boost having people watching. That's one thing about the home gym, it's just me in there, no one sees what happens unless I upload it."Ain't nothing to it but to do it"

I think people that spend time b!tching and moaning over the internet over who and who isn't natural / drug free / whatever could better spend their time elsewhere OR they have WAY too much time on their hands in the first place. The other down side to the whole thing is that kids watch these things and then that's it - boom - all over, can't do anything without gear, no point trying etc etc so you have young teenagers like yourself (not saying you though) looking into getting into heavy cycles of gear JUST because they are disillusioned into thinking you can't get any results otherwise.
It's like from one extreme to the other.
"These kids need to know the truth that -insert random pro here- isn't natural and the supplements don't work!!!"
to
"Yeah kids hop on this cycle of this and this and that and this"
Ridiculous.
How about, "Hey kids, you know if you just go to the gym, follow a consistent program and get your nutrition sorted you will actually be happy with what you see?"
That would maybe be too sensible.
Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with people using gear, they can use what they like. I drink beer and smoke stogies. I have a problem with people GLORIFYING them to people and saying that it's all ok.
There is steroid use and steroid abuse. Use is for intended medical purpose, ie recovery of serious trauma or illness, hormone deficiency. Then there is abuse, use for any other purpose ie muscle growth / strength gains / fat loss. That is the true definition there, except it is obscured to be that "abuse" is "dosing too much". Bollocks.
We wouldn't have the mutants in bodybuilding and crazy world record totals in powerlifting we have today if it wasn't for them... but people would still be competing regardless.
But yeah like you say, I don't go too much into any politics over it all simply because I am just a bloke, in a garage, trying to lift some weight and manage my beer belly :-P"Ain't nothing to it but to do it"

I have hit both those extremes. I'm at university now and so i know loads of young lads who are into the whole Kool Aid scene which doesn't help. Your definition of use and abuse is absolutely spot on- would rep with the force of a thousand suns if i had the power. Gonna go lift now Danno, thanks for the motivation.
Also i think a lot of teenagers have issues with their physiques but i think we all grow out of this slowly.
Quick question, Do you think it's ok to stop benching for a bit to focus on Overhead Press? I was doing the Texas Method and the Bench is moving up solidly but my OHP is going up so very slowly. I can't seem to get past 75kg x 5adde parvum parvo magnus acervus erit.

That's some mighty pressing there sir. My question would be what do you value most? Are you doing any meets? If yes then no you want to keep focus on your bench as that's the only lift that matters.
If you want a bigger OHP and aren't doing any meets, sure, let bench take a back seat and focus on that instead. It probably do you some good to take it easy on bench for a bit anyway. I know I need to back off from time to time. That's why I like cube method because I'm not always going gung-ho at it.
Enjoy your session"Ain't nothing to it but to do it"

Haha some of the questions make me laugh too. I just answer them as I see them rather than plan answers out, that's why sometimes can be a bit slow to answer. Bench is the true master race lift.
