    What do you guys think about going all the way down ATG?

    I squat to parallel (can't go ATG srs kills my knees) but I heard that theres no more leg activation once you go past parallel (pressure goes on knees)

    Yeah knee pain is a common problem from what I've heard. But there must be some sort of leg activation to get from the bottom back to parallel.

    Every serious lifter that I talk to that has been lifting for 10+ years no longer squats ATG, and most don't squat at all anymore.

    I had been squatting 400 lbs + ATG for years, and it's just not worth it anymore.

    Depth makes a difference on explosion. I noticed when I began going ATG my acceleration went up and power Clean 1rm as well.

    huge misconception. Stopping the weight before your body wants to is akin to constantly riding the breaks on your car without ever coming to a full stop. The problem most have is transferring the weight properly. Impressive depth and weight op.

    There are a lot of exercises you can go balls out to failure year after year with little physical consequences if your form is good.

    Squats are just not one of them.

    I really believe that if you lift long enough, everyone will either 1: Seriously tone down their squat intensity and stop going to failure, 2: Stop squats all together or 3: deal with chronic knee and back pain.

    I used to be in the "anyone that doesn't squat is a pussy" camp, but then I realized how bullsh!t the idea that perfect form squats will leave you injury free is.

    I just do hack squats now, and don't really deal with that stuff anymore.

    Makes sense. So if you used to squat 400+ ATG before, what are you squatting now? Still same weight and not ATG or lighter weight to stay injury free?

    I don't do any squats now, I still do leg press, hack squat, lunges etc.

    Going ATG is probably fine, but if you are doing 300+ for reps to failure you might have some knee pain in the long run.

    Just listen to your body, if you have serious knee pain after squatting heavy, and you do that twice a week, stop that sh!t or you will be in a wheelchair when you are fifty.

    Haven't experienced this knee pain yet and rep till failure with atg. Will inform the misc when I am wheelchair

    If you're competing, then obviously high bar ATG isn't the best choice to use as the main compound lift in your routine.

    Personally, it just feels a lot more natural and easier on the joints.
