My god, the fact that this is even a 6 thread DEBATE over whether this shooting was justified or not is absolutely ridiculous. Just because somebody committed a crime does not mean they should automatically be sentenced to death. The kids were not a threat to the man, and were leaving the scene. Shooting them as they drive away is pure vigilanteism and is not how the American justice system works, nor should it. If he rots in jail, he got what he deserves.

The fact that so many Americans have this shoot-from-the-hip and ask questions later mentality is frightening. There is no other western country in the world where a large portion of the population's first reaction to a kid egging their car would be to get out a gun and shoot them and then claim a legal right to justification under "defence of property". Only in America is morality this skewed. I see in the news at least once a week, some similar stupid story in the States where a guy gets into a fight over a parking spot or something and the other dude just pulls out a gun and shoots him dead out of pure heated emotion and temporary loss of rational decision making due to his anger. This is the danger of giving everyone a gun. There is ALWAYS a time, where an otherwise rational person can become irrational. Letting everyone and their mother carry a gun around in public is absolute lunacy, and has lead to far more unnecessary deaths than it has prevented.

American: "But it's my RIGHT to carry a gun!" It's only your "right" because a few hundred years ago some men decided that, based on the political and sociological climate of the time, it was a prudent and reasonable consideration. This "right" was bestowed on you as a decision of a few men, not by some divine entitlement like a lot of people seem to profess. Times change, and people who still cling to these draconian laws as their god given rights are pretty ignorant and do not understand how societies evolve and progress.

Im not terrified of cars. Yes I can get in an accident at any second but they are not being used as weapons to kill me on purpose if I'm texting in a movie theater. There are traffic accidents, which are truly accidents as in not done on purpose....there are not "got shot in a theater for texting accidents."

That's funny OP. I own many guns and so does everyone that I know. I carry a gun every day, and sometimes two of them.

I've never shot anyone. Neither have any of my gun owning friends. Nor have my guns killed anyone by themselves since they are inanimate objects.
