Question About To Start Lifting; Need Clarification On Diet

So, I made the decision to stop being a lazy ass and go lift. I've been told by numerous people that I should have a diet already going before I start lifting. I wanted to get the opinions of the actual lifting community. What do you guys think? Should I be eating a lot more first or does it not matter as long as I keep up on the diet side?

Sorry for any grammar errors, I'm typing on my phone.

Go to iifym.com. Calculate the necessary calories to achieve your goals ie cut or bulk. By the sounds of it you want to gain muscle, so a caloric surplus would be the way to go.

Also, I wouldn't be too concerned about having your diet dialed in before you start lifting. Just know that it is important and it will optimise your results, so sort it out sooner rather than later.
