This thread is home to the Self-Improvement Crew. Our mission? To better ourselves each and every day, and in so doing make the world itself a better place for everyone.
"Every day is the beginning of the rest of your life."
Discuss how you are working on yourself as a person today, and help each other do the same for themselves by posting links or advice. Let's keep this thread positive, motivated and chalked full of great information. Hopefully this thread can make the misc better as a whole, and improve the lives of those who participate in it. I'll start.
1. "This is your life."
Just listen. It's never too late to be the person that you want to be. "This is me. I'm gonna choose who I want to be."
2. Law of Attraction - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_attraction
"The law of attraction is the name given to the belief that "like attracts like" and that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, one can bring about positive or negative results. This belief is based upon the idea that people and their thoughts are both made from "pure energy", and the belief that like energy attracts like energy. One example used by a proponent of the law of attraction is that if a person opened an envelope expecting to see a bill, then the law of attraction would "confirm" those thoughts and contain a bill when opened. A person who decided to instead expect a cheque might, under the same law, find a cheque instead of a bill."
In my opinion, optimism leads to success, or, perhaps more exact, optimism leads to positive actions, which in turn lead to success.
I'll continue to post more, and hope you all do the same. Remember, "we are as we do."
So, who do you want to be?

Just went on a long walk in the sun wearing a tank top.. Got a little color and some cardio, calves are burning. Continuing only eating bananas and I feel great mentally, and am leaning out. Definitely losing a little muscle too, but not getting "soft" at all. I want to get down to about 190 and then put on some clean muscle from there!

I'm in on this chit. I consider myself pretty much a loser, no job, live off my girlfriend under the same roof and using the internet as a replacement for my social life to a point where it prevents me from achieving anything, but enough of that.
Just looking for dat dere self-improvement and suggestions on how I can leave the god damn internet alone.

Hey, sorry for taking a long time to reply, how can I change my signature? I'm still trying to get around the forums.
Last night, I decided to come up with a new scheme to improve myself that involves leaving the house and walking around the city centre (takes me approximately 40 minutes); I know it sounds silly, especially since it's nothing out of the ordinary, but I'm a person who never leaves the house on my own unless I really have to and I think my social anxiety is partly caused by this.
I think I'll keep a log:
17/2/14 - felt uncomfortable, especially in areas like shopping centre, procrastinated before going out but eventually pushed myself, actually reduced my racing thoughts I get on a daily basis

good thread op! here's my top two book recs for ppl to start with for overall self improvement, both of these have general techniques that can start moving u to any goal u have and lay groundwork for working on specific issues u want to improve
Wikipedia description:
Psycho-Cybernetics
Psycho-Cybernetics is a classic self-help book, written by Maxwell Maltz in 1960 and published by the non-profit Psycho-Cybernetics Foundation.[1] Motivational and self-help experts in personal development, including Zig Ziglar, Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy have based their techniques on Maxwell Maltz. Many of the psychological methods of training elite athletes are based on the concepts in Psycho-Cybernetics as well.[2] The book combines the cognitive behavioral technique of teaching an individual how to regulate self-concept developed by Prescott Lecky with the cybernetics of Norbert Wiener and John von Neumann. The book defines the mind-body connection as the core in succeeding in attaining personal goals.[3]
Maltz found that his plastic surgery patients often had expectations that were not satisfied by the surgery, so he pursued a means of helping them set the goal of a positive outcome through visualization of that positive outcome.[3] Maltz became interested in why setting goals works. He learned that the power of self-affirmation and mental visualisation techniques used the connection between the mind and the body. He specified techniques to develop a positive inner goal as a means of developing a positive outer goal. This concentration on inner attitudes is essential to his approach, as a person's outer success can never rise above the one visualized internally.

Made redundant recently crew.
Only advice I can really give to anyone in the same position is basically do not stop, if you're waiting to hear back from a job or an interview then fill that time with applying for more or earning money in other ways, or otherwise doing something positive (making the most of empty daytime gym for example) or trying to find out about free courses and stuff... there's more around than you may think.
IMO the biggest mistake people who lose their jobs (or lose a lot of money and end up broke or in debt) make is to sit around and think about their situation too much and "make plans" instead of actually doing things to change it. When I've been unemployed in the past I've tried to make it so I'm just as busy as if I'm actually working, if that makes sense.
Keep hustling cuzzes...

That last part makes perfect sense.
I also believe time should taken to remain up-to-date within a professional field. Whether it's a current field or one you're applying for, freelancing and developing side projects are good ways to remain motivated and gain relevant knowledge.Hums the theme to Superman during planks and LYTPs. I try to improve myself just a little bit each day, whether that be trying to break a bad habit, be better at my job or just learn something new, relevant to anything or not.
