I worked for banks for the last two years following college graduation, and my life got worse and worse even as the money got better and better. I decided to get the hell out and do what makes me happy before it was too late. I didn't want to wake up one morning and realize at age 50 that I wasted my life working for a company I hate just so some CEOs can get rich. Ask me anything! Maybe you too will break free of corporate wage slavery.

Music brahs! I've been in love with all things music since I was a little kid, but somewhere along the line, I let people convince me that its no way to make a living, so I went to college, got a bullchit degree and joined the corporate drone force. Recently though I started working with some talented musicians and producers and that fire is back!
Here for the gains.

Good luck bro. I made the same decision about 8 years ago. Working in the finance industry in a crap town and hating every minute of it. One night I looked at some pictures of the beach and decided right there that this was bullshiet. Quit my job the next day and went out on my own. Still self-employed 8 years later a thousand miles away in a city I love :-D Haven't clocked in to a real job in so long that I don't even remember what it's like.

all about finding balance: doing a job you like (so you can work on that field for next 40years. Waking up everyday hating your job must be a horrible feeling) that also pays well.
Anyway i probably would do the same. I wouldn't be able to work in a overpaid field at the price of hating my life. So gjdm

I don't care much about money beyond what I need to survive. I don't care much about possessions.
Start planning now! Start saving and find what you love and figure out how to make money off of it.
It feels great to be free! I teach guitar lessons and also have investment income, so my time is spent mostly on building my skills and network.
Banking sucks so bad. I urge EVERYONE to avoid it as a career.
I work on a lot of different projects. I produce, write, play guitar, and I am learning a lot of engineering now as well. I have a partner that sings and does all the same stuff.
I play mostly rock and blues personally but I work on just about any good project that comes my way. I want to start a production and promotion company with the eventual goal of starting a record label. I'm also starting some blogs where I will review albums, showcase new artists and write articles about music topics (hopefully get some ad revenue at some point. I plan to be a producer/promoter first and use my musical skills to attract artists to collaborate with.
I've got some side income streams lined up and like I said, I have simplified my life and expenses. I don't go out and blow 50 bucks a night at the bars anymore.
Thanks brah!Here for the gains.
We're all gonna make it brah.

Man its amazing how many people I've talked to that hated the finance industry. It seems like a lot of people don't realize just how bleak it is until they actually make the jump! GJDM on being your own man!
Guitar, enough keyboards to function. I've played guitar for 12 years, 7 of them seriously. I know basic theory (learning more every day) because I learned to play guitar by ear. I do produce and I actually have some fantastic connections. I don't want to name drop, but some pretty high powered artist managers, professional producers and musicians.
Yeah man, I honestly was miserable. Before 5 o clock even rolled around, I was already dreading having to come back the next day. People focus too much on making big money, but if you are smart with your budget, invest wisely, and learn to tell the difference between what you want and need, you can live well on a lot less than you'd think. Helps to have no debt whatsoever.
Haha, I doubt that very much, but I am gonna make it. We all will.
Bro, refocus your effort towards what you want before its too late. I'm 100% super dead cereal here. I stopped listening to my parents. The priorities when they were young were different. I don't care about owning a home, I'm only 23, so no wife or kids for a looooooong time, and I don't find much pride in working for someone else my whole life. Blaze your own trail man, if you go through life constantly listening to others and waiting for them to validate your choices you will be very disappointed.
I'm not unemployed. I'm self-employed. I think the fact that I am able to do what makes me happy on my own terms makes me more "successful" than the miserable investment bankers making 250k a year.
I guess it is all about balance. I can never go back to working in an office or corporate environment at all.
I have a lot of money invested paying me dividends, I teach some guitar lessons here and there, and I'll probably get a part time gig at a music store or something for a little while. Something low stress that I don't give a chit about nomsayin. Here for the gains.
We're all gonna make it brah.

Good for you OP, I hope it works out for the best.
I'm currently in cocoon-mode myself.
I went to college 2007-2009 and was pursuing a degree I didn't really have an interest in. Just doing what my dad did. I ended up losing my mind at the end of my Sophomore year and ended up joining the Air Force a year later. The AF has taught me a lot about life and applying myself, and it has showed me how good I actually had it before.
I'm on my second deployment right now and just lifting heavy and saving up some cash. I am trying to seperate early to go ahead and start "chasing my dreams" by 2015. Everyone in the AF always talks about how hard it is on the outside and to just stay in.
Always insipiring to hear about someone jumping off the deep end to pursue a better life. Thanks for the story brah.***ProMISCuous Crew***

What are your goals? Glad my story helped. I'm starting to think the key to fixing the worlds problems is first to stop the cycle of "go to college, work for corporations in the hopes of one day enjoying a retirement, death". More people need to innovate and contribute to the world rather than just contributing to profit margins.
Here for the gains.
