How do you prevent post-wine munchies?!

Hey ladies,

I'm going out for drinks after work with some friends and thought I'd have a drink but whenever I do this I get really hungry. Is there any way to blunt the effect of these food cravings after drinking? I'm aware that eating before drinking would do it but I also want to feel a little effect of the alcohol (just one drink will do if I don't eat beforehand).

What do you all do if this is also a problem for you? I was thinking that if I pack a protein shake or something for afterwards that might help prevent me from eating too much... I'm not sure if different macro combos would work better than others (like fat and protein instead of carbs)? Just looking for some ideas.

Thanks for the input!

At the risk of sounding like a smartass, the best advice I can give is don't drink wine. Why change your entire diet around just for one drink? Save it for a cheat meal, then give in to the munchies, or just avoid it entirely.

I agree with the above statement. Either make it a cheat meal or avoid it altogether.

From another non-drinker: the wine itself should be considered a cheat. No real nutritional value but it is a lot of empty calories. So if you're going to drink at all consider the whole thing a cheat meal.

I don't have that problem; I'm not hungry after drinking wine. I would consider it a cheat meal. But anytime I eat and am trying to keep myself from eating more, I pop a piece of sugarless gum.

thanks . .

Yeah this was definitely meant to be a cheat meal but I didn't want it to go overboard with a trip to Denny's or something. I'm not really a drinker myself and when I had that wine last night the whole time I was thinking this will probably go straight to my gut. That said, its not worth it... at least until goal.

thanks anyway,
