    Marcus Luttrell/ "Lone Survivor" question...

Is there an actual breakdown, play by play description of the gun battle?

Ive known about the story since it happened, never really looked into it too much. Just saw the movie and Im sure he and Hollywood embellished a little bit. I would read his book but it apparently is filled with him pushing his political views. Is there an article vid or something that details like who was shot first, how, what time etc? Wikipedia is very vague. Google turns up nothing really.

Movie embellishes the book, and from what I've gathered, the book embellishes real life. In his actual combat report he reported like 32 enemies. In the book its 140+. In the movie it's even more than that.

He def pushes his conservative views, but most of them are related to war crimes etc. In which case he kinda has a reason to, regardless of what you believe.

yeah, intel said 8-10 people. he originally said there was around 20, by movie time it was about 200. I want to know the details of the firefight itself. Who fell in what order, did they really jump off cliffs etc etc

I thought I read that they found or estimated 35 dead talibanis. Its been years since I read the book, but I think 100 is the number of fighters he guessed at.

Even more insane is that he didn't walk to the other village after the firefight. He had to crawl for miles, because he was paralyzed.

Book embellished the amount of people. The movie was actually consistent with the combat report (relatively). I believe there were between 30 and 40 combatants according to the report, and the movie showed about 50ish.

The way in which they were discovered was mostly true, however there was no "vote" on what they would do, there was a brief debate but the highest in command made the call independent of everyone's opinions, which the movie didn't do a good job of portraying. There was actually a lot of scrutiny towards the chain of command in the military when the story was first published because people interpreted it as a voting system, where they almost killed 'innocent' unarmed men illegally. Also it was only one child in real life, not two.

The cliffs jumps were entirely real. There was no way out but down those cliffs, which you can quickly see by looking at their location on that mountain. The cliff sizes in the movie were accurate, and the injuries were consistent with medical reports.

The helicopter crash scene was dramatized. Luttrell and the others did not see it and get excited for rescue. Everyone but Luttrell was dead at this point, and he was already camped out dying in that little cave. He didn't know about the crash until he was rescued I believe.

Theres some actual footage of the gun battle taken by the Taliban and published as a form of propaganda. Obviously won't have all the details you're looking for…certainly not 200 fighters shown in the video as the movie claims. It is gruesome and shows one of the SEALs face after its shot I believe (didn't watch the whole thing, but read this), so if you're interested be aware.

how were the rest of the team discovered? did they all just get lit up almost at once or did they really fight it out and go down 1 at a time far apart form eachother? Did Lutrell really drop that one dude and then fall down the cliff etc etc. I want the play by play of the gun battle.

Honestly, just read the book. It's a good book and that's where you'll get the most information.

Also, everyone in the military (or at least the combat arms) has strong opinions on politics

I haven't read the book, yet! I'm planning to this weekend though. But based on an interview that I saw of Lutrell on 60 minutes, he didn't really drop the guy and then fall down the cliff. In fact, it was a little worse than that. Luttrell says that he was carrying him, made a quick movement and basically turned his buddy right into a flying bullet to the head.

Edit: Wizard^^ The incident I am referring to is in one of those videos
