Took cyclocross bike on first ride today on some poverty trails people have the nerve to call singletrack. Fitness is also poverty, needed to rest going up a long hill, chick asked if I was ok. Very shameful!

re building a bike: Make sure you have a few good tools- Shimano cable cutter (not poverty park tools ones), a Hozan 4th hand (or 3rd hand, whatever the **** it is called), a set of Bondhus L-shaped hex wrenches, and a 3-4-5 hex wrench. And electrical tape, cable crimps, etc. A robust workstand makes your life easier, but is not necessary.

I have been MTB only for years for the same reason. Recently got a good road bike. Chit is amazing. Honestly go and try a good quality road bike from LBS and go for a decent ride. Once you ride one, it all makes sense as to why people ride them.

New bike to replace my old mountain bike. (Some fcker stole it, cut through the lock with bolt cutters in broad daylight)

Never had a road bike before, soooooooo badass!! Fast as fuark on the street. Live downtown big city now, so never hitting trails anymore so no reason to have a mountain bike. Brb going 35mph on a bicycle never knew these feels before.

Any suggestions on how to carry my U-Lock? The bike shop ppl said not to use the bracket on my carbon-fiber frame cus it could damage it. I don't (nor really want) paniers, do I have any other option that won't fck up my bike? I used to use a cable lock just wrapped around my bottle holder, but the cable lock was what got cut by the fckers in this city so goodbye convenience. Tips? Panier my only option? (Other than carrying it in a backpack everywhere I go...I like to just take quick trips sometimes without carrying backpack but still want to be able to lock my bike up; urbans gonna urb afterall)

I can't wait to get my first road bike paid off. Put down $500 at the LBS so he could order it before they were sold out. Was able to get this for $50 bucks over 2 grand.

    Specialized Tarmac Comp 2013.

Did I do good? I'm thinking it's way more bike than I can handle for awhile but it'll keep me from looking to upgrade it and focus on my inner core.

I have a new project on the way. I prefer to ride steel bikes with modern group sets and since I sold the Eddy Merckx i have been exclusively riding my track bike, so i picked this frame up.

    screencapture

The frame is a Nigel Dean, hand made in Reynolds 653. Plans are 10 speed Campagnolo and Chinese carbon wheels from the bay. Hopefully it will look something like this when done.

Finally going to take the mountain bike plunge.

    http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...29_pro_xii.htm

I live in Memphis, TN and we have no mountains to speak of but our trails are riddled with tree roots that will throw your line in a heart beat. No rocks but I'd like to take it on camping trips to places around like the Ozark mountains in Arkansas and make a long weekend out of camping and trail riding.

I have a really crappy entry level trek 26" with rim brakes that gets the job done on trails but not in a sexy way.

Looking forward to 40 mile trail riding days where I can go and get lost for a few hours and not worry as much about cars running me over.

    That's a good deal!

I'm trying to get into the swing of things since it's still cold, but no wind chill anymore. I did a quick ride this morning.

    Started at 6 A.M.

These three barrels are always moved around.

Shrunken quad of peace. I should be back to normal with consistent riding in a month. No, I am not going to shave my legs.

More climbing. This part is easy, but parts are eroded, so it's angled. Almost fell off once.

Caught the sunrise on the way up.

Is anyone riding a rigid fork on their mountain bike? I'm going to build up my hardtail with a rigid fork and as a 1x10. I'm currently looking at these three forks.

    Salsa Cromoto Grande
    http://www.jensonusa.com/Salsa-Cromo...igid-29Er-Fork

    Surly Karate Monkey
    http://www.jensonusa.com/Surly-Karate-Monkey-29-Fork

    Voodoo Cycles Zombie
    http://www.jensonusa.com/Voodoo-Cycl...bie-Rigid-Fork

I like that the Salsa and Surly are suspension corrected for 80mm forks. My hardtail originally came with a 100mm fork, so 20mm shouldn't be that big of a deal on head angles. The Voodoo one says it's suited for a 130mm fork on a 26er, but can be used and recommended for a 29er. Any idea what a 26" 130mm fork equals to in 29er fork travel?

I don't care about weight, since it'll just be a bike I lend out to people that don't have a bike and want to tag along, or when full suspension is overkill.

For the rest of the specs, I'm looking at:
Shimano Zee or SLX rear derailleur
    Shimano SLX shifter
    SLX 11-36 cassette
Raceface Ride crank (already on the bike) and using a RaceFace Narrow chainring
Reusing the Tektro brakes that are on there.
Figure I'll get an inexpensive used wheelset.

What do you guys think about this shifter prototype. It seems like a good idea.

feq. There is like 3' of snow outside and I am chomping at the bit to go for a ride. I should probably take this time to order my front derailleur and get everything else sorted but I will wait till the last minute. LOL
