I very nearly bought a Giant when I was shopping for a new bike a couple years ago. I narrowed my search down to Giant, Specialized, and Cannondale.
However, despite its name, they were not the largest frame manufactures. They do make more bikes though. So in that, the name does apply.🎥

Subbing to this thread.
Did a serious upgrade about a year ago to a Ridley Fenix, full Ultegra components. Put my old Specialized on the indoor trainer for the winter time. It sucks only being able to ride outdoors (weather permitting) on the weekends. Can't wait for longer daylight.

Night riding brah. I do my best riding after dark. In truth it is much more dangerous for obvious reasons. But I'm well lit.

I dreamed some gangster from the hood stole my bike. Riding off with it when I walked a way just for a moment. Why do I keep having this nightmare? Is it an omen?🎥

I feel bad for any cycle brah who needs to ride on the actual road (with cars). Our designated canal path with underpasses just got upgraded with a few more miles of pavement near me. I tested them out sunday. Was nice. Out of the 100 miles I do per week, maybe 7% is on the road with cars (neighborhood side streets)
As a rule I will not ever ride on a road that has traffic lights.Spoiler alert; you die at the end.

Besides events I 99% of the time ride on busy 2-4 lane 45mph zones. The shoulders are nearly a lane wide so I feel really safe. Lights and paying attention helps. My normal 18 mile loop I like to do in the spring and summer is on busy roads during rush hour, but I've only had a few times I've had to ride my bike on grass/dodge a car in three years.

Lucky you, but not all of us have that choice. When I do, I use them. But the destination dictates the route, and most of the time that's includes the roadway.
The good news is better laws to educate the public and protect cyclist are up all over the country. Bike lanes are getting wider are better maintained, although we still have a long way to go. For the most part, I think motorist recognize that cyclist have a right to the road too.
As for the stress, it comes and goes. If the roads are well maintained and you have room to anticipate and adjust, it can even be exhilarating. I love blowing past cars idling during rush hour's bumper-to-bumper traffic. I typically wave to the suckers.Last edited by KRANE; 01-28-2016 at 03:41 PM.

Must be nice. My entire ride today was on the street. Got a pretty good adrenaline rush when someone almost doored me. I can see how riding through the chicago streets could be scary. I'm just used to it by now.

yes, believe me, I know how lucky we are in phoenix to have the canal system with accompanying bicycle paths. It's a dream. I never would have bought a road bike if I didn't move here. Living here and not utilizing the massive system of probably 100+ total miles worth of paved path through underpasses is a sin. I actually chose my current residence based on the fact it was located 100 feet from path access.
Spoiler alert; you die at the end.

How you know I didn't neg you on purpose? Maybe I'm jelly of your beautiful cycling paths?
Seriously, you are correct. it wasn't an intended neg, so sorry. Now that you mention it, I've had this happen a few times before so I watch it very carefully as the default is rep., and it definitely showed as a rep.
I can fix it (in time) but that only brings you back to where you were before. I suspect some type of glitch in the machine?🎥

So I'm not a brah, but can I post here too?
So jelly of HMFIC_BROWSIN's bike paths. I live in Chattanooga, and we have a lot of good options for cycling here on and off road, but nothing as awesome as that for a road bike. And it's pretty cold by southern standards right now.
I spent so much time putting on cold weather gear for my ride today, I forgot to put my water bottle on the bike. Got to my turn around point, reached for the water, and oh sh**, no drink for me. :/

true this...
I have had my close encounters as well but 99% of the time you have to be alert and remember that are on a bike, with that being said my CLOSET encounters has been during races...

I think I'm more afraid of squirrels than cars. There are a couple I'm sure are trying to kill me. Brb, squirrel getting his adrenaline fix leaping through my spokes at the last second.
They're trying to make my city more bike friendly, installing lanes and more path. They're also going to have plain clothes cops on bikes. They will ticket cars that come too close to them. Not sure if that's going to make motorists feel better about sharing the road with cyclists though.Last edited by RuleFive; 01-29-2016 at 01:59 PM.
