Buy a product with a good dose of l-leucine instead (leucine > HMB).

I can say that I feel a lot safer when dieting down taking glutamine. It's almost like my security blanket

With hmb/leucine, look for a quality cheap enough supplement to where you can dose it throughout the day. I like to take 1g of leucine with just about every meal.

HMB is a metabolite of leucine and can be quite expensive.

IIRC very high doses of glutamine may help repair gut damage in certain situations (chemotherapy patients for example).

OP, here is the University of Maryland, Dept of Medicine overview of Glutamine and its benefits.

    http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed...ment/glutamine

Another from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

    http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/74/1/25.full

Overall, it seems to have some effect in helping people with injury and stress recover but the studies are not completely conclusive.
