Are the various types of oatmeal brands nutritionally the same?

I don't know which one I should buy, so I just pick randomly.

And also, I don't see why so many bodybuilders include oatmeal in their diet, I mean it's not rich in protein and has no significant amount of fiber and complex carbs. I'd rather stick with my potato.

40 grams (1/2 cup dry) of old fashioned rolled oats gives you 4 grams fiber.

There is no nutritional difference between old fashioned and quick oats. The quick oats are just rolled flatter, and chopped smaller.

the instant oats (in packets) usually have sugar added.

There is variance, not from the oats themselves, but from the added ingredients, which vary by brand and within brands too.

Plain oats generally have the same nutrition by gram, but not by volume (ie - steelcut) as some are more dense/not processed by rolling.

As far as nutrition/why people eat them, they do have more value than you seem to think: fiber, etc. Also very cheap.

No substantial differences. And as the poster above mentioned, they're extremely cheap and do help fulfill your requirements for fiber.

Given that nutritional info allows a relatively large margin of error, it doesn't really matter.

Also oats contain quite a good amount of phytonutrients if I recall correctly.
