Precisely why I did sir. Saw it on jts and did some searching
Looks like he ruptured patella and quadriceps tendons, broken knee cap, ligament damage in both knees.
Hate to see injuries like this happen to anyone. I hope brandon can make a strong recovery and come back strong.
It makes me think about knee wraps and how much they may or may not protect your knee. I only say this because he had posted a video of an 850 squat back in august, and the injury happened with 750.

He is a really cool guy to read about and read his interviews. He is an inspiration to me. Even if he can't come back 100% I hope he comes back from this and can still get out there and lift and continue to be awesome.

I think he only had sleeves on at this meet. But nothing is gonna protect your knee if you fall with your foot planted like that, nevermind having 750 lbs on your back.
I've had two knee surgeries so its pretty sickening seeing an injury like that. I hope he has a successful surgery and recovers quickly.Sorry I am Croatia

He had some really tight SBDs on...I'm curious how much compression and support they provided (if any) that may have kept his knee from popping out even further than it did. Also, I don't think he has been training heavy the last few months. I overheard him saying that he has been squatting light (for him) weight for reps and drilling perfect technique. Whenever form breaks down he deloads and does more reps. If I remember correctly, I think he said that 565x5x5 is the most he's done recently.
The fall wasn't his primary injury. His knee popped out, causing him to fall.Last edited by coachdeez; 01-26-2014 at 08:59 PM.

quad and pattelar tendon is being lucky theres probably more to it.
the way is leg bended he probably tore is acl pcl and mcl . is lcl could be the only ligament that got spared
hes probably looking at a complete knee reconstruction. this guy his out of the game and he'll be lucky if he can squat 650 in 1 year.
he wont be able to use leg drive for bench properly for monthsLast edited by dunnie; 01-26-2014 at 10:54 PM.

I follow Brandon on YouTube and have watched tons of his training. Its freaky to think that someone so strong can be taken down like that out of no where

Watched this on the Live stream last night (UK). Got a horrible sick feeling when I heard his knee and watched him fall. Hope he recovers fast and well.

It actually is more likely to happen the stronger you are. The loads these guys are working with are high enough that completing a meet without injury can be difficult. Some lifters are more brittle than others: Sam Byrd has rarely done an injury free meet. Malanichev often gets injured or at least tweaks something at meets.
He's recently been training without wraps, but it does make you wonder. I've seen knee injuries with wraps, and without... as long as you are loading yourself to the max, injury is a possibility I suppose.637/390tng/615 - belt/wraps, best gym lifts.
600/370/600 - best competition lifts.
575/330/560 - best competition lifts at 181 raw.

Tough video to watch. That fact you can hear his knee makes it even tougher to watch. His road to recovery will be long. According to the JTS email I got today his patella broke in half.......two pieces. Quad tendon tears in both legs, patella tendon tear, etc.
I wish him a speedy and pain free recovery.“Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify.” ― Henry David Thoreau. This is why I am running the 5/3/1 program.

stolen from the misc thread
Update:
"On my squat as I descended my left knee popped wildly, and gave out, causing similar strain to the right leg. Thank everyone of the crew onstage, and EMT's on the scene. As of right now without surgery I'd never walk again as I sheared my ACL, meniscus, patella, tore both quad tendons, and MCL in both knees and the knee cap in my left knee will be replaced. I go in for surgery in 10-15 minutes, I just wanted to thank every single person for the comments, status updates, texts, and emails. This is just a bump in the road. I have one of the best knee surgeons in the US. Say a prayer or keep me in your thoughts... I appreciate you all very much, and I'll see you on the flip side."
