Ok, I have tried a few things, st.Johns wort, Kava Kava, theanine etc
Nothing has worked very well.
Looking for something that is good for anxiety and depression.
Not keen on ssri stuff, looking for natural treatments...
Let's get a list of what people have found useful and the effect that they felt. Thanks.

There is little evidence that supplements as antidepressants work. I've seen some things on St. John's Wort but nothing convincing.
Why not go see a therapist? Hell of a lot more "natural" than supplements. You're operating on the assumption you have something biologically wrong with you. Do you have physical evidence to support that?Random Guy, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist

...for the hundred millionth time, "natural treatments" are absolutely not any safer than pharmaceuticals... they often work by the exact same serotonin pathway, the only difference is your getting a lot of other random crap in "natural" supplements instead of a pure, stringently tested compound produced in a lab. You do understand that many original pharmaceutical compounds were extracted from the plant/animal tissue that had been found to contain them in abundance, before chemical synthesis became more feasible?
You say you are "not keen on seri stuff", which is completely retarded as anything you take is going to (more than likely) give you a degree of the same side effects you would get from a pharmaceutical antidepressant as the net result for both is merely inhibition of the re-uptake of serotonin.
Even then, any pill/supplement you pop to help with your depression is merely staving off the real problem, i.e. the negative thought pattern that causes the depressive state. You need long term, INVOLVED therapy and months of mere mental self improvement, not pills.

Maybe find the cause of your depression and work through it rather than looking for a temporary fix.

there has been some studies on fish oil helping depression.i doubt it would make much of a difference on its own , but its worth a try.
also let me just throw it here:not everyone feels great on sterons.some studies hints a negative link between dat there and depression may result from the substance’s impact on the pituitary/hypothalamus glands. If the duties of these glands are hindered and unbalanced, then stress levels may elevate. This creates a greater susceptibility to certain psychiatric disorders like chronic depression.

The problem with the pure refined stuff in a lab is that it DOESNT have all the other 'crap' in it that the natural stuff does. Natural things have various chemicals that work together..you isolate one thing and you cause imbalances that often lead to the problems...such as refined sugar vs a whole orange etc...real food vs isolated vitamins etc...
I agree on the therapy thing, but I want something that will perk me up in certain situations while I work through things and get to a better life situation, that will be easier to deal with long term. Nothing wrong with giving your biology a kick up the ass for a while to get things sorted out.
Also, I disagree on the whole 'tested in a lab' argument, as it is well known that lots and lots of these pharmacutical drugs have side effects and have very limited testing periods...no thanks jeff."If you correct the mind, the rest of your life will fall into place..." - Lao Tzu

If a supplement can fix it you aren't depressed. There's nothing wrong with getting on meds. If you broke you arm would you go to the vitamin store or doctor?

OP, there's no such thing as a "natural" remedy for depression. St Johns Wort all have side effects just like modern pharmaceuticals do.
IMO, since you've already tried the most effective over the counter supplements, you should just hop on an SSRI or try cognitive behavioral therapy.Misc Med Crew
