Question I asked from yahoo answers:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...0133055AAloGkKSeems like some chicks these days don't accept the guy's last name so they stick with their own last name. Others seem to go with both, like let's say her last name is "Smith," and my last name is "Jackson," she'll go with "Jackson-Smith."
Would you marry a girl who doesn't want your last name only? Personally, I wouldn't. I'm 21 and already planned if my future wife doesn't accept my last name, she's not worthy enough to be married to me.
Look at the answers there. This question was inspired by a thread earlier on yesterday on the misc. Some guy made a thread saying he wouldn't marry the girl if she don't take his last name. Honestly, I agree with him.

I actually agree that it's a tradition founded on gender inequality, which I am against.
Hybrid surnames are inconsiderate towards the children though. Let's hyphenate our names because as a strong and independent woman my name is important, but my kid won't have that option because there'll be one hyphen already.
Not sure what the solution is when two people who want to keep their names get married. I guess they should keep their own.Last edited by RaymondHorsely; 01-11-2014 at 01:09 AM.

I legally have a hyphenated name, never liked it. growing up it felt different to others that had just one surname. and having to explain what a hyphenated name is all the time was annoying (pretty much advertised that my parents split up/divorced). usually just go with one of them now, but it puts me in a difficult position because my father gets mad/jealous when I just use one of my surnames. most people just know me by one surname now though.

I did. My wife didn't want to take my name (and I see why, it was a kind of lame name). We didn't want to hyphenate, we weren't sure what name to use for our kids and I sure as hell wasn't gonna take hers.
So we both decided to pick a new name together and I changed mine by deed poll. Then she took that new name when we married. Got to pick a badass name. Now when I tell people my name they're all like "wow, thats awesome". I swear most of my success is from having a strong name now.Dont list any crews in my sig crew

I like my last name.
I'd hope I'd be happy to take my husband's name, but if it isn't as good as mine... and I don't like the idea of giving up part of my identity like that.
There have been studies that suggest that there's some truth in this.
