Well according to your stats you are
5ft 9ins and 252lbs
So unless you look like Jay Cutler I'm guessing that it's not all lean tissue
You seem hell bent on doing HIIT no matter what
so Do what you want to do
Your body may not be able to keep up long-term with your gung ho approach
Don't let your ego make the decision over your age, experience and well being

I completely understand that your advice is well-intentioned (thanks), but it still misses the mark of the whole point of this thread. Given the added weight that I put on during 2012, my general (in particular, cardiovascular) health took a step back. 6-months of post-op physical therapy allowed me to gain (some) of my strength back, but my cardio was left up to me. That generally took the form of walking daily and, eventually, doing some Tabata circuits to assess my progress.
Research what I mentioned about the VO2 approaches concerning HIIT. It's not about weight or intensity; at least, not my intensity compared to someone else's. It's more about challenging the upper limits of your VO2 maximum for brief interval periods.
Trust me, I'm lean at 185, so I know I've got a long way to go & I'm not going to push myself into so much exertion that I'll be passing out or puking. As with ANY type of aerobic/anaerobic program, going too hard can have dire results. That's not a principal that's limited to HIIT.

It all comes down to your goals in the end
the original OP question asked was..... Is HIIT good for weight loss?
The answer is yes of course it is it burns calories intensely, my question is it longterm sustainable. ?. I think not, is it optimal
I think not especially if you train with heavy weights the impact is too high if done correctly
Seeing as the main cause of weight loss is down to calorie restrictions some estimate 80% , to retain muscle mass requires resistance training say 10-15% what impact does any cardio have other than burning more calories
for me HIIT doesn't provide enough bang per buck to justify doing it for weight loss over any other cardio
a world class athlete truly going for that extra 1-2% performance gain may be justified in going for it
