Disclaimer - To all those who run / use crossfit as your training method, my rant is nothing personal it's specific to my gym only so don't get all sensitive...........PING.............
Crossfit invaded my gym about 4 months ago, with it came a new speaker system and disco lights........... disco lights in a gym..........
Despite the volume of the music doubling when they start a session rendering my earphones useless I wasn't too bothered by it, until last night, last night crossfit in my gym evolved into something ugly.
A heavy crowd of people formed around the equipment, more people than there were stations to accommodate them, so the fitness instructors expanded out with mats and stupid additional apparatus like little mini hurdles making access to the cables almost impossible. After demonstrating some ridiculous new exercises the session began, music volume doubled (the same crappy music that always plays with the stupid PING noise.) The crossfit monkeys then began their silly overcomplicated exercises crammed around the station like battery farm chickens. This went on and on for what seemed like forever, they even did these synchronised star jumps between rotating around the station. Seeing this young fitness instructor barely old enough to have hair on his balls controlling this large group of adults like kids in a playground was too much, and to top it off, when it finally came to an end, they all clapped each other..............

agreed with both comments made previously
my preference is before 8am to the gym, seriously most sessions are just me and a cleaner on the premises
it will settle down as many of the attendees realise that what they are doing is probably a bit much for them, if it is their 1st venture into fitness for a while/ ever
in the mean time, maybe check the schedule and try and adjust your training time to avoid any cross fit sessions ?☻/

It's the first full week of Jan; give it a couple more weeks and the injuries will start to kick in. Crossift is the exercise world version of Darwinism.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!
The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.
They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......

Unless this thread already exists elsewhere, I say we keep it going just to rant on any new exercise fad going.

I know I am in the minority (possibly not here but in general) - I motivate to lift more when I am being yelled at than applauded. It can be positive yelling, but applause is just a bridge too far.
I try to be encouraging for others and tell people nice set, weight, or workout from time to time, but there is no reason to applaud someone's warmup sets. I personally would find that ultra annoying if someone applauded me for warming up.Its not enough!

I must be having a different experience with the crossfit crowd than most people on the board here.
I belong to two gyms, one is a standard commercial gym which happens to have a platform I can use, it's also close to home, work, and school so it's convenient. They also run a Crossfit program but it has it's own 7,000(?) sq foot space in its own part of the building so it doesn't bleed into the weight area.
I also belong to a Weightlifting and Crossfit gym (it's split between the two sides, basically just a big warehouse area), this is where I get my coaching. The crossfitters that want to take their technique up a level come to our side to get some additional training on snatches and clean and jerks so they can learn how to do them right, some even start competing which is great! The owners have really taken care to build a good gym/box/whatever you want to call it and it shows. The members love it, there's a good sense of community, I never see anyone getting hurt. Maybe I dodged a bullet.
Edit: Disco lights? Wow I'm actually stunned."When you fall into a pit, you either die or get out."

I usually work out in my home gym, but when I am travelling on the weekends I hit this gym that has cross fit classes. Luckily for us, they have their own room, cant hear the music in the gym, and rarely even see the cross fitters.
it costs me $30/month for a membership, and the person at the front counter told me that the crossfit people pay $240/month, and the classes are full.
I saw the class all go outside and run in the parking lot. All I could think is "you spend $240/month to run in someones parking lot?"

Nice ego lift bro, who's your surgeon?
If your eccentric is 3x the speed of the concentric on a press, you're stupid. And if you look like you're trying to wiggle out from underneath a fat woman while you do it, your stupid.
Back arch bigger than the golden arches at mcdonalds
Stop dropping hex plates on the floor, they dont bounce. You just broke the floor. Why are you using 4 stations at once?

Lol whats a bit funny about this is when im in AZ at the local anytime fitness, if I go during the day I almost always get interrupted by the sales lady with a ... And this is Ted he was 290 before he joined us 3 years ago and now look at him. You can do this too if you join us (they are nice people so I let them get away with it). Like its the gym that did the hard work eh, they even have a picture of me floating around back then, I was a real fat ass.
OTOH I dont get yelled at if I deadlift so there is that.

I'm with you!!
I lifted at a crossfit gym, several actually out here in AZ. I don't mind the atmosphere, but I can't stand the fact everything is in "class" format!! I just want to come in and do my workout (Olympic lifting) and not get bothered, but that's usually not possible, even if you pay the $150/month!!Training log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=168969133

I dont do crossfit but would like to someday, with that said crossfit needs to stay in "crossfit only gyms". The stuff they do in regular gyms is ussual some kind of wana-be crossfit.
Also, biggest pet-pev, when they turn up the music so loud I can hear my headphones. Gym music should be back ground noise.

LOL we always clapped at the end of an Aerobics class (you know in the 90s)
LOL
I think this explains why TRUE crossfit should just stay in crossfit gyms. IF a gym is going to have a crossfit type class then it should be in ana rea that disturb everyone else workout. I'd be pissssed!Journal but the 2020/2021 ed. ---> https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=141049421
