I'm talking 9-13. I was, I remember laughing while my pastor(sheikh) was doing khutbas(speech) because of how illogical the stories sounded. My father stopped telling me to pray because he realized I had no interest in religion. Note: I was a very religious kid at nine or so, going to a private Islamic school, reading quran a lot and felt like a good muslim, but I drifted off after I started thinking for myself. I am now an athiest but I feel as I was never a muslim as I feel I've been an athiest my entire life.
Cliffs
OP born into muslim family

yeah.
Other kids had "religion" class at school and myself and a couple others had "ethics". You could choose to go to islam/catholic/christian class though but it was always so ridiculous.
However, the one thing they had on us at that age: random church ceremonies to celebrate bullchit occasions where religious kids got loads of presents and sweets. Bastards.Guitar Crew

I lost my faith when I came into High School. Like around twelve years old...
I guess I somewhat lived through a semi-atheist life as kid and it wasn't too bad had more time to read sci-fi and play runescape instead of going to some religious ceremonies sitting through it (I was impatient at that time as well).

Parents never pushed any beliefs onto me, either way. I had never even really thought about it until I went to a Uniting Church high school and had to sit though all of the religious drivel at the easter/christmas 'special assembly/services' bullchit, when I realised it was all just one big crock o' chit

Never took it seriously. Tfw mad jealous during RE while everyone else had free time.

Nope.
Had a lot of serious doubts about Christianity around high school and a few years after.
Now I'm pretty much a believer after a few months of research and debate. I'm not exactly a great person, though."The thing about quotes on the Internet is that you can't confirm their validity"

you're looking at it backwards.
if you were an external entity looking into this universe, would you still come to the conclusion that there must be a deity? probably not. you only come to this conclusion because you've been raised upon the premise of there being a deity.
therefore, the question is not 'why would you not believe in god' rather 'why should you believe in a god'
one does not require proof of non-existance to justify their non-belief, rather to believe in the existence of something, it is you who requires the proof to justify your position....*says 'negged' but doesnt actually neg crew*

i actually kind of agree with this. always lol when religious people claim its their right to teach their children what they want.. Children's minds are easily manipulated. Religious indoctrination of children violates their right to self determination and impedes their ability to critically think as adults.
The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny.

Yeah sure. I don't know my mom's exact reasoning but I do know she knows a lot about religion, Islam specifically. She even taught a class on Islam. My mom researched a lot and she is now a complete athiest, not agnostic. My parents are now divorced.
What drove me away? Brainwashing of kids into thinking they're chosen by a god because they were born into a religion. Illogical unrealistic stories that seem like someone with the intellect of a grapefruit wrote them. The force feeding of religion and the arrogance of some Muslims was unreal. As I said earlier, I knew religion wasn't something I was going to abide before I could even write a proper essay. I feel as if religion was kept around to keep humans in order.

Go to church most sundays with parents, sits there not giving 2 phucks of whats being preached.
When they call on me to pray i do a superb job, and do offerings etc
don't even consider myself christian just fricken parents forced me to go to church every sunday since i was little. and maybe i would have been more open to the religion but since i had no say in choosing it and im the rebellious type fuark that they messed it up for me. Soon as i a graduate never going to church again, and thats sad because its a small church so every1s close but i dont want to continue a lie in front of their faces.

So why has this phenomenon existed from pretty much the dawn of man.. i.e tendency of humans to believe in and worship a supreme being? Coincidence?
Your last statement is a paradox.. your non-belief IS a belief.
I believe in god because my logic dictates it. I just keep asking where did I come from.. matter?atoms? Ok where did that come from? What/Who started the big bang? Could life just explode out of nothing? How can energy just be created without a creator? The only logical deduction for me, is that a supreme intelligent being i.e God created the universe.
Another thing I find quite puzzling about the argument that there is no proof/evidence for god.. well let's use our power of reason and deduction for a second. If god exists..and god is supreme, supernatural, unlike anything or anyone else.. what makes you think you petty worthless little thing can "test" the almighty god? Also, another reason you will never find "scientific/empirical evidence" (unless you witness a miracle which is a whole other story and not something Im basing my argument on at the moment) of god's existence that would prove to you with absolute certainty that he exists, because that would defeat a purpose of our creation which is to test us and see who will believe and who will not;this is mentioned in the Quran. (and this is why I subscribe to the Islamic narrative.. I find it is the most coherent, the most logical..every question is answered for). If this whole life is a test, God would not "give" you the answer.. not during the test anyways.

Ain't nobody gonna read the book you just wrote about your opinion cuzz...btw there is flaws in the quran
Noah's ark is a myth, even Christains know it's fake and is a "moral story"
Adam and Eve is fake. Evolution prevails, there's a lot more, these are just main ones. Google quran flaws, if you don't believe me. These are 100% accurate and can be found in the quran.

Why is it hard to believe that a supernatural being has always existed? The definition of god encompasses and entails ever-existence. The same cannot be said for anything else we know of.
Whyumadtho? No need to be butthurt..I put up these arguments because I am a truth seeker above all else.. I am muslim, and I have had my doubts also which is why I posted in your thread and found it interesting.. the reason I put out these arguments is to find if someone can crush them and help me realize I am indeed in the wrong, if I indeed was, but I always seem to get these lazy unintelligent illogical responses which so far reinforce my beliefs.. but this wont stop me from continuing to search for someone that can really make me rethink my beliefs.
As far as Quran flaws, I just did.. they are laughable, pathetic attempts at discrediting the Quran.
Quick example:
Claim: Only Allah Knows the Gender of a Fetus
Current technology, such as sonograms, has enabled doctors and expecting parents to learn the gender of a baby while still in the womb. There are also sex selection techniques and clinics that allow a couple to predetermine the sex of their child.
Verily the knowledge of the Hour is with Allah (alone). It is He Who sends down rain, and He Who knows what is in the wombs. Nor does any one know what it is that he will earn on the morrow: Nor does any one know in what land he is to die. Verily with Allah is full knowledge and He is acquainted (with all things).
Where in that verse does it say God Alone knows gender of fetus? It says he knows. *Bertstare* It's actually interesting that it emphasizes that no one else can know the future (what he will earn on the morrow.. and what land he is to die..) and that only God knows.. and THAT is undeniable.
As far as evolution goes.. I have no problem believing in adaptation, but evolution from species to different species I have a problem with as do many acclaimed intellectuals and academics.. and besides.. what observable evidence is there for evolution? None.. because according to the theory it takes millions of years..something you wont live to see.. Why do you believe in evolution and not God brah? Strong Logic ITT.
