Either way, the sudden and increasing emergence of steam over the last week spells trouble for the site as a whole as the complications of the multiple meltdowns expand exponentially.

Reactor 3 is currently unapproachable by humans. It is being picked over and slowly “cleaned” by robotic cranes. Human’s entering that reactor building would be dead within the hour at that level of exposure. There are 89 tonnes of spent MOX radiation fuel rods stored on the 4th floor of reactor number 3. The main reactor is well below that level. That steam is rising from the 5th floor indicates a passage from the fuel pool or “rod dispersement” or scattering.

The No. 3 reactor is one of the three reactors that suffered a meltdown during the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami of 2011.
