I've heard nothing but good about Defranco. I just finished reading this article on vertical jump training

    http://www.defrancostraining.com/art...cal-jumps.html

and I usually stick with his WSFSB program.

Allen Stein is good for basketball performance training.

I don't know why it matters. There are different horses for different courses. Want to get in shape for Rugby? Ashley Jones is likely to be the guy. Fight sports? Martin Rooney, Joel Jamieson or Ross Enamait come to mind. Football? DeFranco, or any of a bunch of others - including Endline Training on this forum.

Another point is that it's highly probable that the best strength coach is some guy you've never heard of - working at a college somewhere - who doesn't have the marketing skills these other guys have, but is converting poor athlete stock into great players.

So, I guess it really doesn't matter. What matters is the athlete's application.

For the extreme obese? The best trainer for mega weight loss is Chris Powell
Contrary to popular belief, I dont actually bench 900lbs, as stated in my username.

    Supplement Stack:
    -Orange Triad
    -CreaCore
    -MusclePharm Fish Oil
    -Caffeine Tablets

Nutritional ketosis requires explicit reduction of CHO intake to generally lower than 50 g/d and, for some, <30 g/d. Protein must also be restricted, often to <1.8 g/d per kg body mass and sometimes to < 1.2 g/d per kg, with remaining calories composed from fat.

@Krakkerz I totally agree with you man, there is probably some great strength and conditioning coach at a college program that gets payed too much to care about internet marketing, uploading videos, blogs etc... another great one is Elliott Hulse

No one will ever contribute to the performance field as much as yuri verkhoshanksy, his research and development of training principle is unparalleled. RIP

(obviously doesn't contribute to the today's discussion but thought it deserves acknowledgement)

Best strength&conditioning coach is completely biased. I think I am the best, because that's the mentality you have to have in order to get anywhere in the fitness industry. It really depends on the sport, Chad Smith is excellent when it comes to throws/strongman but if you want people with lots of letters behind their name you might like Eric Cressey, or even Todd Durkin since he works with top NFL athletes. Maybe it's Jackson since he has coached some of the best MMA fighters out there, gotta be specific

    Cal has my bias vote.

Other coaches that have been listed so far are here largely because of their marketing skills, not their knowledge or their ability to convey that to their athletes. Not to say they are not great coaches, but if they were working at a D2 program somewhere in Kansas you would never know about them.

Cal has created a training system that I believe will completely change how we train our athletes 5-10 years from now. It's not sexy like kettlebells, TRX bands and Prowlers. There is no exciting exercises or rep schemes. It's simple and it works - learn how to absorb large amounts of force, then learn how to convert that force into stored energy for explosive movement.
