The good news is that its powder. Snookums and I got quite the quad workout today, though! I broke trail and she followed, mixed depths in overshoes for ~2 miles.

Saw on the news today, some 70 million folk will be feeling the 'chill.' We get cold down here in Texas, but not -14 degrees Fahrenheit! Some years ago...a good many now LOL, it didn't get above 0 for 5 days in Tulsa, Christmas time. I walked from the car to the concert hall downtown from parking a couple of blocks away with a good friend to see the Nutcracker, a Christmas tradition. My ears and nose were numb. The wind blowing through the buildings was viciously cold. You can lose appendages in that sort of weather, pretty damned quick!

It's been unseasonably mild so far this winter - i think we've only had one very mild overnight frost so far.

This is entirely caused by the fact that i purchased winter wheels/tyres for my car. Had i not been thus prepared, we would have a foot of snow.

In the daytime here, it's a balmy 10C, around fifty for the American crowd. Wind chill factor makes it colder, but it's still okay. When I was growing up in Toronto, once it hit 10C, I'd go outside and shovel snow in a t-shirt and a pair of sweats. A lot of people did. But 123 cm of snow...no thanks, glad I'm out of that kind of weather.

It's expected to get in the single digits here, which is very rare. Winter sucks.

Ang bought me a snow thrower for Xmas this year. Best present ever. Still takes about the same amount of time but a tenth of the effort.

We are supposed to get hammered with the first winter storm of 2014 starting tonight. Tomorrow may be my first vacation day of 2014 if I have to dig out. And 4x4 truck or not, I'm not going to hazard a 30 mile ride to work when I can log in to the systems from home. It's the other people on the road I'm a-skeered of, not the weather.

I'm scared of other drivers everyday during my commute whether it's good or bad weather. Been rear ended from some half-asleep, cell phone texting, non-paying attention, driver before in perfectly good weather. The traffic in my area is the worst part about living here (the only bad part really). Takes me 2 hours to go 30 miles sometimes.

Yep, I got rear ended at a red light by a woman who was on the phone. I got out of the truck, went over to her, and she was still on the phone saying something like "well, I just hit some guy... yeah... I'm OK... blah blah blah..." She never came up for air. I wanted to grab the phone and lob it across the road. Of course, I'd probably get arrested for "assault". She farked her grill because she hit my trailer hitch. My truck was fine. I just cursed her out, got back in the truck and drove off. I've gotten even smarter and put a T bar step in the hitch. The guy who sold it to me said it's great when you get hit because it does even more damage to the other car. It's a good deterrent.

A balmy -11 C here today, and this is balmy after what we have had.

    As a public service, attached is a C - F conversion chart.

Edit: Apparently one of the words is on the banned list as it is converted to ****** so the link will not work.

    Edit 2:try this one

What the heck? It's the htt*s getting starred.

Edit three: a link without the s in http

I'm out on Long Island and we're going to be basically hosed between later today & tomorrow. I won't even set my alarm tonight. The weather report has us in for 12-18" and blizzard conditions. Fridays high is supposed to be 16*F.

But I'm ready, bought breakfast goodies (bacon, sausage, english muffins, home fries makings, etc), got sand, shovels all strategically placed. Bought gas for the snow blower, so bring it on!

They are (or were) trying to outlaw the practice leaving a hitch in the receiver...here in Illinois. Has saved me more than once from serious damage to my car.

That sucks, because it's really a step. Of course they'll say just attach it when you need to use it. They have an answer for everything. I wouldn't put it past NJ, the Nanny State, where they tried to outlaw quick release wheels on bicycles because kids were fiddling with them, the wheels coming off, and the kids getting hurt. Um... leave the ****ing wheels alone.

I had a class 3 Reese hitch under my Chevy station wagon when I had my stock cars. I left the hitch and ball in all the time. Some lady in a Honda ran into the back of me at a light. I really didn't feel the impact that much, but what a noise. Her car seemed to be totalled out and my bumper may have been scratched. The cops at the scene were incredulous and didn't believe I was driving a car that had been hit. They kept asking her where was the car that she ran into.

LOL I've parallel parked behind vehicles with trailer hitches sticking out, then thought better of it and just moved along to search for another parking spot. The rear view mirror provides some perspective when they go to pull out, but it doesn't always take into consideration a trailer hitch!

As a public service announcement to Dr. Greifo's confusing conversion chart, here's the dummy version for people like me who hate math.

    10C= (about) 52F
    How?
    Multiply 10x2=20. Add around 32 degrees...voila between 50 and 52F

    Fahrenheit to Celcius.

    Let's say it's 52F
    52-32=20.
Divide 20 by 2 and you get 10.
    Voila.

    You're welcome.

I hope my friends in the northeast are OK. They've been telling me about school closings and such because of the storm. I lived with that weather every winter for more than 2 decades and it just got too much for me. While I have a whole bunch of thing to complain about here in the southwest, weather is not one of them.
