This month I'm bouncing between 202-205, up from my summer low of 188. Would you suggest I add another 5-10 lbs. before the contest start date and take my pic as a big bloated mess? Actually with the holidays, if I showed zero restraint I could easily add another 10-15 lbs before then maybe even more. I thought these contests were aimed at people carrying a whole lot more fat than I am at the moment.

I don't know much about the realistic possibilities. I can only go by my personal experience. You tell me. Check my October 1 to today transformation. I weighed about 200lb Oct 1st, today I weigh 197lb. Body fat lost, muscle gained.
Also, not trying to put much muscle in there anyways. More about building up a good fat reserve. I lost 25 lbs in two months without much effort back in April-May 2013.Last edited by bradandblake; 12-19-2013 at 07:59 AM.

I registered but not sure I'm ready for a show. I'll know better when I get to the end of the contest. I think I'll have to hit low 180s.
Gaining all of that was mostly in jest. And I think you're right, I would have to be about 183. Puts my LBM at about 174-175.
The only negative is cutting this early in the year, gonna be tough.

I was planning on taking a break from heavy lifting in January already to lose some weight. I am currently in the 380's, could probably stand to lose 150lbs. I see contests like this and wonder what I could possibly do in 12 weeks. At the very best I would have a crap load of loose skin to deal with.
My workout plan is to still go to the gym, but not touch a barbell, this will keep me from being able to lift heavy. Even at 40-50% body fat I still have a considerable amount of lean body mass. I have no concern of losing muscle. It is the loose skin that gnaws at me. I already have a bunch now and as you lose weight it gets worse. That is the stumbling block I need to overcome.
I have no delusion that I would win or even place, but would doing this contest be beneficial to me anyway?

I gotcha... I probably am overpromising myself on my goals. But its just a guide. I feel like the weight gain is probably going to be tougher then the weight loss. I've gone through three (30lb) bulk and cut cycles now. Just never tried it over a 12 week period. Most of my cycles have been 6 months. It will definitely be an extreme challenge.

Might be, some shared motivation. Know a few people with sheets of loose skin, nobody would rather go back to having the weight on vs loose skin.
In my experience with losing 3 digits off the scale once you get on a good run, take off the first 20-30 pounds it gets easier to keep it going. The most important aspect of weight training; whether for the athlete, bodybuilder, or average person is to better ones health and ability without injury. - Bill Pearl

These contests are all about making yourself look as crappy as possible for the first pic and as best as you can for the final. It is sad, but it is just the way they work.

All right boys, now watch how this is done. The key is to put it all in your groin and your back.
Take your legs totally out of the equation. Lift with your lower back in a jerking, twisting motion.

As Ejnar stated... don't gain any more. As far as when... at least it doesn't start until after the New Year.
I don't think any of us are deluded into believing we can win. Though I found last year in the Collaberative effort thread from last year, the support really helped keep everyone on point.
If you're pure focus was to lose as much fat as humanly possible in 12 weeks, there are some that have dropped as much as 50 lbs in 12 weeks (srs). With whatever method and how moderate or extreme you decide to take your diet, I'm in it to help you win it.
Money will make a lot of people sacrifice their integrity. As far as I know, this is a natty competition, and everyone needs to make their own choices.
There is some truth to this, no doubt. While I certainly intend to use a bit of better lighting and perhaps shave in my after pics, I do not intend on bloating myself for the before, or using poor posture. I want both my before and after pics to be a fair representation of myself.
Everyone's mileage may vary.
You're weird.
It's up to you. I can see your point, absolutely. On the other hand, getting relatively lean at your stage of the game can set you up for a year long bulk. You're dieting anyhow, and would just be going 12 weeks instead of the 8 you intended.
Nothing like putting yourself in the spotlight to light a fire under your ass.
Ejnar.... I didn't hear an IN! from you in the Collaberative Journal. Which reminds my.... I need to message Disc Doggie on FB so she can get her ass in here.

Thinking about registering for the motivation of the group.
I can lose maybe 5lbs of fat (and/or water) in that time and could coax my kid to take a before pic while on holiday on the beach next week. No way I'll come close to winning but seing other people's progress would be motivating.
Do I need to follow their plan? (By that I mean to have to tell them my goal and receive a plan or can I just ignore that part). I just want to keep lifting heavy and eat at a deficit.Last edited by mcbourque; 12-20-2013 at 07:12 AM.
