As the out of towners have said, it is very common to see deads from the floor in international contests. Actually, I have one coming up in may that has a pull from the floor, ASM had pulls from the floor....just never see it for a max.
Luke and I tossed around the idea of putting in a 18" deadlift into the equation, but that really represents differently across the board and a standard deadlift is, well, more standard.Strongman Training Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=138026593

I've seen both partial and dl from the floor in contests over the years. I've also seen them be for max (either last man standing or rising bar) or for reps. It all depends on the mood or wishes of the promoter.
There are also axle deadlifts which can be standard height with bumpers (actually a little lower due to the thickness of the axle) or in the 16-18" depending on the height of the tires.Bravery and stupidity are often synonymous. So are cowardice and intelligence.

Yeah, I've only been in one or two contests that have the PL format. It's usually a rising bar style where they put X on the bar and everyone who wants to take a pull can step up. Then the weight is raised and the whole process is repeated. You can take an attempt at as many weights as you'd like, but fail once and you're out.
We have a rising bar log and a last man standing axle deadlift at my next contest in a few weeks along with a yoke/drag medley, husafell (yuck), and stones over bar for reps.Bravery and stupidity are often synonymous. So are cowardice and intelligence.

Gym total = Max Front Squat, Max Clean and Press(oly bar, axle, log, whatever), Max Deadlift
FS: 420
C&P: Axle 260
DL: 610
Event Total = Best Farmers Walk, Best Yoke Walk, Best Atlas Stone Load

No video, these were done before everyone on earth recorded their every move. The good old days...

I just got into strongman about 8 weeks ago so my "Strongman Total" is crap compared to my powerlifting total. These also aren't my all time maxes, just what I've done in the past 8 weeks since I started training for a strongman comp.
Gym Total:
Front Squat: 315x5 (Est 1rm: 367)
Axle Clean and Press: 225x5 (Est 1rm: 262)
Axle Deadlift: 545x5 (Est 1rm: 635)
Est Total: 1,264

Not me, but there've been times when I got all tacky'd up and really had to whiz so I had to hold it. I can only imagine how comical it would be trying to manipulate certain body parts when you're full of tacky.
Using toilet paper would be an entirely different problem.Bravery and stupidity are often synonymous. So are cowardice and intelligence.

I did this tonight. I've got a 455 front squat, but I haven't pulled a legit 1rm conventional dead in a while so I might do that soon. Since my training isn't super serious I can have some fun for a while.
1708 total @220 Raw
Improve my total every time I step on the platform.
