To improve technique mostly, you do something often enough you don't have to think about it anymore and it just becomes motor skill memory. Also may help build muscular endurance.

Its good for beginners but skilled lifters should reduce the volume.

Well sometimes they THINK it's to get them "lean", but it's not. The actual function of it is muscular endurance and getting technique down.

So doing more volume with all other variables held constant wont make you "leaner"?

Nothing much special. A high rep set at the end of the workout will increase capillarization , delivering more nutrition, oxygen to the cells while disposal of waste products , helping trainee more tolerant to lactic acid and before contests showing a bodybuilding competitor more swole with pump effect.
In terms of hypertrophy have a slight effect since the tension is insufficient to make muscles grow.

I don't think there is a single human on earth that can maintain anything even remotely discernible as "good technique" with 15+ reps in one set of anything.

for those who seem confused, your technique breaks down with fatigue, therefore if you are doing high reps you technique will eventually break down. Unless you are using such pointlessly light weight that you won't get anything out of doing that weight.

And if you are looking to improve technique, you would be much better off doing 20 sets of 2-3 with say 60-70% rather then 2-3 sets of 20
