LONG week!!! I've done more training than I can tell you. My Oly shoes have been on my feet since Sunday night. I've trained so many clients, spent 3 days at the dojo, and trained my ass off.
I'll catch up on everyone later
Today:
@ The Dojo:
My sensei is an assh*le!!! Today's training was INSANE!!!
We actually had a couple people walk out half way through training. My Gi was soaked and my right side was seizing because I couldn't breathe.
In between all the kick combos, sparring, and heavy pad work...
We did:
700 crunches
210 push-ups
Countless planks
...then, back in for another round of kicks and katas.
I don't know where his head was at, but his Ukrainian crazy a$$ was on some sh*t today!!!
On the Platform:
Cleans:
(Doubles...pull hard and fast.)
132lbs x 2 (x2)
176lbs x 2
198lbs x 2
220lbs x 2 (x4) - Rep PR
231lbs x 2 (x2) -video Rep PR
253lbs x 1 - video PR
264lbs x 1 - video 44lb PR!!!
105kg (231lbs) x 2:
115kg (251lbs) x 1:
120kg (264lbs) x 1:
Cleans were on point today. I'm surprised I was moving this well after that karate session earlier. 44lb PR on that last clean. F*CK THAT BAR!!!
Clean High Pulls:
(Basically an upright row with a hip pop up...BUT, the second and third reps get caught on the way down and stopped and pulled from just below the knee...holy traps and rear delts.)
264lbs x 3 (x5)
Woooo!!! These were tough after all those cleans.
Front Squats:
(Triples...smoke that position!!!)
220x3 (x2)
242x3 (x3)
For as much time as I spend in front squat position, my front squats will be on par with my back squats soon enough
...But seriously though lol...
Superset:
Flat Bench/Squat Cleans:
(Yeah...you read that right Your boy got his pump on.)
95x10/176x2
135x10/176x2
185x5/220x2
185x5/220x2
185x5/220x2
225x3/242x2
225x3/242x2
225x3/242x2
Just jumped in with some bros slanging some bench. Shoulders felt good. It didn't feel tough enough, so I supersetted with more cleans.
Overall:
I f*cking slayed this session.
Off to work!!!"The code of Bushido is harsh and relentless."

GNARLY session dude, those cleans were money, form was textbook and the weight moved hella easy... I'd say you've easily got 10-15kg left in you, esp. if you capitalize on the rebound out of the hole rather than pausing and muscling it up

On the way to the gym, I questioned if I would be able to move at all. I guess so I was honestly shocked at the PRs. I dug deep and made that bar my b*tch.
And, idk if he was actually pissed. It's hard to tell with him. He just gets frisky sometimes. Today was one of those times. You know when the other senseis are struggling to complete the workout and missing reps, that sh*t is fkn REAL. My sparring partner was another sensei and even he was like, "Is he for fkn real right now?"
I bet we all get better though
Thanks, man.
I'm still working on the timing of the receive and utilizing the bar whip out of the hole. I for sure had 130kg in me, but I saved it for another day.
I left it all there today. No regrets on this session."The code of Bushido is harsh and relentless."

Jealous of those adipowers .
Do you feel the cleans and other oly lifts have helped you nail down form on the big 3? I work with a guy who now swears by cleans for his squat/front squat progress over the past year.*Professional comic book geek* *semi-pro cartoon collector* *full time nerd*

Yeah, my email was hacked a few weeks ago. I switched my passwords. Should be straight now.
And, I wasn't leaving that gym without the PRs!!!
Thanks, V.
Honestly, the dojo is more difficult most days than any gym training I could think of. That sh*t is hard work!!! Our sensei is a total traditionalist. Keeps true to the original structure and principles of the style.
Cleans and Snatches are just such intense movements. The muscle recruitment, CNS firing, mental fortitude, and all around body awareness, is greater than anything else I've done.
I have done an experiment with my clients. We got rid of bench press from their programming and have added power cleans in their place. As a result, their deadlift and squat numbers have risen, and I'm now eyeing the effect on OHP by having them add 3-5 OHP reps after their cleans. I've watched my strict press and jerks rise without even extensive press work.
As for the squat, full cleans will certainly help with positioning. And the power clean, because of the EXTENSIVE tension and recruitment of the upper back, will make the front squat easier in two ways. 1.) It will build the front rack position. 2.) It will strengthen the upper back, so that it can be engaged easier and will help you keep the torso upright.
Everything I do is:
1.) A pull off the floor (simulating deads)
2.) Caught in a squat
3.) Either caught or thrown overhead
I don't usually do strict Deads. I squat 4 days a week. Yesterday, other than random demonstrations for clients, was the first bench press session in near 6 months; I don't miss it.
Yet, even though I don't dead and don't bench, my numbers are still rising lol
My form is tighter than ever and I'm overall stronger, faster, and more agile than I've ever been. So yeah, I think Oly lifting has done more for my form and ability to perform any exercise than anything else I've done."The code of Bushido is harsh and relentless."

Really excited to hit the gym this morning after the weekend off. I was feeling sharp this morning and I was ready!!!
Warm-up:
- Tons of mobility.
- Just moving the bar around.
Standard Warm-up:
Muscle Snatches:
88lbs x 5
110lbs x 5 (x5 sets) - video of last set
Push Jerks:
132lbs x 3
154lbs x 3
176lbs x 3
198lbs x 3 (x5 sets) -video of last set
Front Squats:
176lbs x 8 (x3 sets)
220lbs x 8 (x4 sets) - video of last set
Overall:
Nothing crazy today. Just got in and got out.
Jerks felt strong today. The most difficult part of them is lowering them and catching them back in a solid rack position.
I haven't squatted for that high of reps in a while. It was unpleasant. Not difficult by any means, but I do prefer my 1s, 3s, and 5s
Tomorrow is going to suck. The setup is torturous."The code of Bushido is harsh and relentless."

15-20 reps in my realm of lifting is then called "Crossfit"
Fuuuuuuuk that!
It's an assistance we use to build our overall jerk numbers. There are some lifters, actually some of the best in the world, most notably Kendrick Farris and Lu Xiaojun, who push jerk in competition...BUT, you need STUPID scapular mobility, overhead strength, and raw leg power, to do that heavy and consistent. Those guys are monsters and just general freaks. There's a reason that 97% of the weightlifters on the planet split jerk.
My jerks are coming up. I'm aiming for a 300lb Clean & Jerk by years end!!! Say I won't!!!"The code of Bushido is harsh and relentless."

Was kind of draggin this morning. Couldn't stay asleep last night.
Oh well...time to move.
Normally, I would have karate this morning, but my Gi was in the washer and I didn't realize it until I was looking for it, so I just hit the gym early.
Snatches:
(Singles off the floor.)
88lbs x 5 (x2)
110lbs x 3
132lbs x 1 (x7)
143lbs x 1 (x3)
Didn't really smooth out until that 3rd single at 132lbs. After that...$$$$$$. Fast and smooth as hell. Was going to do some progressive single after the written work, but I stuck to the programming. I know there's a method to the madness. Ego stayed out of the gym today.
Jerks from the Split:
88lbs x 5 (x2)
110lbs x 5 (x5) - video of last set
Jerks feeling great this week. Moving quick and putting it where I want it overhead.
Squats:
176lbs x 5
220lbs x 5
264lbs x 5 (x5)
Nothing crazy. Just moving smooth reps.
Walking Overhead Lunges:
44lbs x 6 steps each leg + 3 OH Squats
88lbs x 6 steps each leg + 3 OH Squats
132lbs x 3 steps each leg + 1 OH Squat (x3 sets) - video of last set
Overall:
Nothing crazy. The snatches looked tougher on paper than they were. Everything today moved well and I'm becoming MUCH more confident in my ability to jerk. All is well.
Just another day.Last edited by TakedaShingen; 04-22-2014 at 11:06 AM.

Ahh yes...
As we learned from Happy Gilmore:
"It's all in the hips. It's all in the hips."
I'm getting to be lightning fast at getting under a bar in a full clean or snatch. Even with that 120kg clean the other day, I was under that b*tch fast as fuuuk.
Now to get these shoulders stronger so I can start throwing these heavy ass bars overhead!!!"The code of Bushido is harsh and relentless."

Wisdommaster is welcome to contact me through message, text, or email, anytime.
I have some great materials from Coach Mark Cannella on teaching the lifts to others. He's welcome to have some of them. They're a huge help for identifying cues and movement patterns, as well as basic programming. Also, I have some great reads to suggest.
Keep killing it, Stan."The code of Bushido is harsh and relentless."

Lots of solid oly work in here I see! I'll have to subscribe and follow along. I plan on getting a log up maybe tomorrow so I have a place for my videos.
I actually have materials from Mark because he taught my USAW cert. 2nd week of out club and our members are killing it!
Let me know about any good reads I'm also trying to find new things

Same here...took my Level 1 with Coach Cannella. He and Drew are great dudes.
Books:
"Olympic Weightlifting" by Greg Everett
and
"Periodization" by Tudor Bompa
These two have pretty exclusively been having my attention as of late.
Granted, I'm really new to the lifts, but anyone who knows me or has read this log knows, that I'm an all or nothing kind of cat. And these days, Snatch and Clean & Jerk rule my lifeLast edited by TakedaShingen; 04-22-2014 at 05:50 PM.
