Should have stayed in school bros!
At least picked up a trade while in school, lazy faks that didn't put in any effort to learn a trade. Do not deserve such a raise. 15/per hour? There are peeps that went to college to make that! Why the hell would they deserve it for free? Aww you can't afford to support your family and drinking habits? Get another job!/rantTriple canopy crew*

Again, living wage means what? I can think of various ways I can live on $800 a month if I had to.
Because it's that simple, right? You're a tard.
If somebody has to work two jobs to scrape by, that's unfortunate, but they made some bad choices.
This. brb every bottom-of-the-barrel employee gets a twice as much money. "What about us supervisors"? brb every supervisor gets double the pay. "What about us managers"? brb a can of green beans at Wal-Mart now costs $19.

It's ridiculous. I worked fast food once and some of the workers don't give a chit or work very hard. Sure I can see if your a hard worker you would want more money but if you do a good job you probably will have a chance to make more money or get a better job.
I guarentee you these people that are behind this live beyond their means. Not everyone needs a smartphone and the biggest TV.Twins/Vikings crew

I guess it depends where you live. But I see this kind of stupidity in some ways here and there. I have friends who complain about being broke all the time. brb need to buy some more smokes. brb need to add to my beer can castle. brb going to the casino.
But I do have to say, there is a big difference of what people think they are entitled to these days than something like 10 years ago. Seeing kids with smartphones blows my mind.

Thats also import fees, but if its 150, thats 6 hours of work if its $20 minimum wage. If its $60 in the USA AT $8, thats 7.5
If politicians actually werent allowed to be sponored by said corporations, we could make THEM pay for their employees. But it won't happen
Reality is, the poor people have to exist so the rich can too, we all know this and it wont change until chit gets violent.

This is really all there is to it. So many potatoes in this thread, not sure how you can justify paying people less than they need to survive on.
The funniest part is, a lot of the people arguing against this claim to have a better understanding of economics. Brb best economic system is one in which workers are paid a wage that they are unable to live on, forcing them onto welfare that comes out of the entire nation's tax money. Even as the corporations rake in record profits. Logic, not even once.

Because places like Wal-Mart and McDonalds suggest their employees file for welfare and food stamps rather than pay a livable wage. Basically they want Uncle Sam to help them pay for employees, which is bullsh*t. Minimum wage didn't increase for decades, people began paying for chit on credit, half the country ended up in debt. Banks and large corporations bankrolled on the people, and continue to do it. Not saying these people are 5 star employees, but with the profits places like that make there is no damn excuse to put the burden on the tax payers to help pay their employees.
Rich convince the middle class to blame the poor. Saying is relevant all throughout history, no different now. 2% of your tax dollars go to food stamps and people honestly believe that is "making the country go under". Take a gander at how much you give to Israel and other foreign countries and learn what real rage is.Bama

I always enjoy these debates since both sides are retarded.
Liberals:
We need a $30/hr minimum wage! Free everything! Unionize the fry cooks!
Conservatives:
Abolish minimum wage! Let major companies pay $2/hr for unskilled labor if they want to! Abolish all government assistance! Let those who can't afford to live just die!
The problem is raising the minimum wage isn't very practical. Companies will not pay for 100% of the raise via profits. They will raise prices. True there won't be $50 Mcdoubles like some chicken littles like to talk about but prices will go up to offset some of the cost. Abolishing the minimum wage will only hurt as well since large companies will start a race to the bottom with their wage. If I ran a business and could get away with paying the guy that sweeps the floors $3 an hour I would. The problem is when every major corporation starts doing this it becomes the standard. Small business could try to attract employees by offering higher wages, but their businesses will not be successful since the large corporations can just offer much lower prices on their products due to lower wages.
And since most manufacturing jobs have been moved to third world sh*tholes, there isn't really anywhere for those workers to go unless they pursue higher education i.e. college. Only problem there is even college degrees are becoming extremely common.
Basically the whole economy is a massive clusterfuk.*MFC*

-Let's criticize people who work at McDonalds/Wal-Mart for receiving government benefits.
-Let's criticize people who work at McDonalds/Wal-Mart for protesting for higher pay checks.
-Let's collect our fat pay checks at the end of the week, then shop at Wal-Mart, CVS, McDonalds, etc, while stuffing our fat asses and enjoying life.

Some ridiculous posts in here. The general consensus is if you are earning minimum wage you made some bad choices and deserve it. Ok say everyone goes to uni and gets a masters in whatever, what happens then? who stocks the shelves? who serves the fast food? the point is the powers that be want and need people to be low class. They use this to manipulate people and rule with fear, why do you think University fees have gone up yet again? to price out working class families and to make sure their kids go straight out of school and into a minimum wage job to help pay for bills, which they get stuck in. Seriously absolutely no compassion for your fellow man in here.

Local areas can establish their own minimum wage. It is higher is NYC than TN.
It's a disservice to a lot of people to establish a minimum wage that is at the living wage, because there are a number of people working that don't need to make a living wage (supplementary income, kids working, etc).
Ideally there'd be a better way to get folks that need to make a living wage aligned to jobs they can do, or hooked up with the training they need. But arbitrarily setting a minimum wage at a high level will be negative for those who are expecting to benefit.\

I'm still waiting for my answer...
What is the cost of life Australia vs US, basic stuff like milk, bread, water, rice etc.
IMO, we should completely eliminate minimum wage, and let the free market decide what each individual employer is going to pay it's employees. If that employee doesn't like the pay, then ****ing quit or don't take the job offer, go work somewhere else. If where you live there are NO jobs that satisfy your needs, by all means MOVE, that's what I did, and yes, I did work at a restaurant, customer service (lowes), and warehouses, while using a crappy flip phone and riding a bike to work/hitching a ride to school. I decided to go look somewhere else for a career opportunity, so I moved. Now I am happily employed, make decent money.
If I can do it, why can't they?
