Cars are not hard to **** up when they are parked with a sledge hammer. Now imagine the idea of a car driving 45mph plus the weight that car carries and spearing straight into a tree that's rooted into the ground, an near damn immovable object. Yup, car go bye bye.
And lol at ppl saying 45mph is not fast and that shouldint of happened to the car going at that speed. It just goes to show how desensitized ppl are towards death and destruction because of what is seen in movies. 45mph is very fast. Just because there are higher speeds that can be achieved doesn't lessing the idea of 45mph or something. As if every time we reach faster speed limits the old and slower ones become universally weaker and much safer.

What about front engined exotics? Or mid engine exotics where the engine is located smack dab in the middle of the car? I'm curious how an exotic car has an engine that is designed to be separated from the rest of the car when it's connected to the drive train and transmission through harder steel, aluminum, carbon fiber, and various other methods to deliver the power to the wheels
I don't think there are eny csr companies in the world that engineer exotic cars that cost the same as a house with a super secret eject button on the engine that launches the engine out of its bay during a crash for safety

holy ****, the misc is dumb as fck. The 45 mph impact was narrow ass tree which basically acted like knife splitting the car. The car hit the tree sideways, the only thing protecting the occupants was the car door. The CGT was a convertible with a removable hardtop, which is inherently weaker than a fully enclosed unibody structure.

The Lambo does split though:
CBS reported that "the Lamborghini severing in half...is a safety feature meant to help protect people inside the car. That safety feature may be the reason the driver was able to walk away from the crash." The Daily News claimed that "The [crash] shows exactly what manufacturers of the $400,000 ride had in mind by designing it to break apart easily on impact, a safety feature that lessens the energy involved in the wreck."
We're not sure this description is entirely accurate. Perusing websites that rate auto safety features, not a single one of them that lists the Aventador mentions there's a break-in-half design.
Here's what we do know: Although Lamborghini does not participate in factory-sponsored racing to the extent of their competitors, they're not above learning a thing or two from F1; thus the Aventador is designed around a carbon fiber monocoque, like an open-wheel car, encasing the driver in a strong but lightweight cage. Here's what it looks like:
It's simple physics that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. When this understanding is transposed onto a car, we can see it means that the weakest parts will break first; we saw the wheel come off of an F1 car here, presumably because the suspension struts are weaker than the monocoque, allowing the energy from the impact to shatter them.
What that means to us is that the Aventador's monocoque is simply the most rigid part of the car, and that the strength differential between the monocoque and the rest of the car means the rest of the car is likely to experience catastrophic structural failure before the monocoque. But the thought that Lamborghini designed one half of the car to go careening off into space, and possibly doing damage to cars or people well outside of the crash zone, sounds completely absurd to us.Last edited by Awarebrahhh; 12-03-2013 at 03:46 PM.
