Engineers are rarely actually on rigs. Company men from multiple rigs will call engineers located in a central office when they have problems. The way to go on a Drilling rig is geologist. Test core samples, work half year, make 120 to start.

Yep testing samples. I looked into it quite a while ago. Can't remember if it was for Halliburton or Weatherford, mighta been both. It was a generic sounding position like field technician or something. But they wanted a Chem background

Make some calls. Smaller local companies with **** reputations are best for breaking out.


I work 20 on 10 days off.

Don't get me wrong man petroleum engineers make like 200k they just do it from an office.

Some have small gyms. Nice rigs have catering. Drilling rig like is 12.5 hour shifts 530 to six. 1/1 or 2/2. Rigs are pretty big actually but you stay in a shack on location. Usually private room with shared kitchen.

Industrial background helps but nowadays they looks for experience . Most larger companies have training programs that are required for no rig experience people that are backed up for months. The boom isn't booming so much anymore but jobs can still be had if you can appeal to an old school hardass.

Actually I do lift. I used to do very physical work so I wouldn't. But my job now is pretty cake got plenty of energy to work out
