Blows my mind that voters here want want to keep this POS system that is pretty much designed to screw everybody but the rich and upper middle class, while enriching the corporate medical business.
It isn't like the care is any better either.

I don't think many want to keep the current system, unless they're ignorant. I think a lot of people have a huge problem with the way the new one was hastily set up. Myself included. The "new" system has been a train-wreck from the beginning and isn't structured any better. It just makes stuff nearly free for the impoverished (which isn't bad) at the expense of the middle-class (which is bad).
All my humble opinion, obviously.*LF Chat Crew

I do think part of the problem is there are so many people who don't bother to actually look into what is going on. They just hear what certain people say and automatically believe it and when another person comes around trying to contradict or shine a light on what is really going on, the listener already has decided that what they are going to hear will be false or against them which ends up with facts falling on deaf ears.
I'm sorry but I feel people should want to work hard and better themselves. Unfortunately to many people want things given to them.

my insurance is weird. when i went for my surgery, i already knew they wouldnt pay so i didnt even bother. i did however, put my blood tests and prescriptions through. first i got a letter saying they weren't going to be covering any of it along with a statement for how much i would need to pay (but this wasn't a bill). i havent heard anything since. it's been about 1.5 years now. not complaining!

My perspective would be:
When I was younger I grew up mainly in minority or even what some people would consider ghetto. A lot of the mindset that we had reflected that of our older friends, their older friends, their parents and so on. It's easy to understand why so many people's attitudes towards certain things don't change. If you constantly are getting one side of the story it's hard to accept something different. It's easier to get defensive and shut the other person out than it is to listen and maybe realize that just because you've always known something to be a certain way it doesn't mean it's true.
Now that my job is a civil servant it forces me to keep my opinions on many subjects to myself when a patient or someone else in the community want to complain to you because you have a uniform on. Here in Queens the neighborhoods range from mansions to houses with boarded up windows and doors. The areas I service are mainly the lower middle to lower tier and heavily minority (Hispanic). It always amazes me how many people have no desire to better themselves. But then I talk to a lot of people and realize "What motivation does this person have to do so, free housing, free food, free money, free health care" Why go get a job to end up having to pay for the things you get for free now. People are quick to call us for anything because they know it's free.
The undocumented who need health care. You think that's an issue? No, it isn't as bad as the government makes it out to be. Why? Because here we already have a system where if let's say you don't have medical coverage and you get sick. What's the solution? Call 911, we cannot refuse care nor would we based on you having coverage or not. You get to the ER, no one can ask you if you are here legally or not, all they ask is who you are, what your medical history is and do you have insurance. No insurance? Doesn't matter, you cannot be refused care. Who gets a bill for all this? Who can you bill when technically that patient doesn't exist to the government. Then you have the ones with Medicaid, like everyone. That's like a gimme card.......Here's my media card, gimme a ride to the hospital. Sir why didn't you call a cab? I don't have money for a cab, my medicaid will pay for this ambulance.
I'm sorry. I went on a tangent there. Obviously it's a sensitive topic and I don't get to express myself often. And I also want to say to anyone the Lat read what I wrote and thought "Man, that guy is an ass". I'm speaking from where I have lived and worked for my entire life. I speak about not liking how the minority groups here abuse the system but I myself am a minority. I was born here and learned Spanish before English because my parents didn't know how to speak English that well. It really bothers me when I don't see my own people or anyone for that fact don't try and be better than the generation before them and try and leave a little something extra for the generation ahead.Last edited by MrM27; 03-06-2014 at 04:11 PM.

Kinda happy to live in Norway when I see all those hospital bills etc. but there is a slight downside to free health care (small fee for doctor visits etc. but hospital/emergency/surgery is free) and that means there are loooong queues to get treated unless it's life threatening or a real emergency. But the upside to that is that you get 100% of your salary paid by the government for the first 12 months of being on sick leave and 66% after that.
Downside to that is that a lot of people try to be sick for as long as possible, thinking of it as paid vacation. My story going from obese to fit while battling daily chronic headaches:

There is always someone less fortunate, with real hunger, with real adversity, who made something of themselves. What is your excuse?

lol
i saw a thread on the zercher deadlift somewhere yesterday
i'll read eventually, MrM27!
continue your discussion, i just wanted to post this. a regular in the March challenge who has already lost 80 lbs recently learned about this opportunity. he has to lose 15 lbs in 19 days in order to get a pay raise of 20k.
Ok guys and gals. Here is what I am going to be up against to get the job I am shooting for.
Testing date is 03/25/2014
Max weight: 250 LBS with Boots, Jeans, Shirt and Workbelt w/ 10lbs tools.
Looks like I will need to be 230 LBS or less to qualify. Currently 244.9
Will need to lose 15 lbs in 19 days. That's 45000 cal Deficit in 19 days or 2368.5 cal deficit per day.
Here is my plan... See what you guys think.
IIFYM TDEE calculator says current TDEE 3080
Body Media Fit says 3645 TDEE
Drop Cals to 1800. Deficit Based on IIFYM: 1280 cals
Deficit Based on Body Media: 1845 cals
This would mean that I would have to burn between 500 to 1000 cals in extra cardio per day.
You guys think it is possible? I have a 20k per year pay raise riding on this. If I freaking have to starve myself, then so be it.start where you are

I was expecting a blood vessel to burst from the top of his head and create a red mist that would float gently down to the mat.
Ya... It's been one of those days.
How was' your Mexican birthday dinner? What'd you have?
Ugh, got my hair cut a couple nights ago. It crossed just a smidge over the 'too short' line. It kinda looks like a SS haircut. Sh*t
