This is a similar concept with many other sporting elites.
Swimming burns a lot of calories and is quite physically demanding leading to toned and relatively lean bodies. It also builds base muscle as well. One of the only ways these people with perfect technique can move faster is by pushing harder and thus needing stronger and efficient bodies. In terms of aesthetics their bodies appeal to most people who aren't hardcore bodybuilders as they build a very triangular shape requiring strong upper bodies but do not have the need for huge legs. Yes their kicking power helps swimming, but massive quads does not help this purpose. They build these bodies through years of resistance training involved with swimming alone as well as gym practices."Every inch of every rep of every set"

Ex-high school swimmer checking in. Swimming practice as freshman/sophomore/junior we would swim over 7000m per practice. I always got down to around 6% bodyfat during the season but was really skinny. Bulked up to 180 during summer than lost all the fat (got down to 169) only one fourth of the way through the season. I quit swimming to pursue bodybuilding.

I would think that if you actively participate in something that not only requires a great amount of athleticism, as well as requiring you to wear nothing but speedos, you're bound to look pretty decent. There's also the fact that there may be swimmers who aren't as aesthetic but because they don't have the genetic pre-disposition to be at a professional level of the sport so we don't know about them, and it usually tends to be that if you have "good genetics", you not only are good at any given sport but you also look like you're good at the sport.

Another thing is that being a tall swimmer is not a coincidence. I've read about your spine fluctuates when it is in the water, and after years of rigorous training, your body learns to adapt to that shape. Plus swimming freestyle is full body exercising, which equalizes the toning you will get from it.

broad shoulders.
you're using pics of olympic/pro swimmers so they ofcourse lift and use sort of PED
genetics. i know this dude at my school who swims but doesnt lift and hes big as fuk, his brother is as well. they only swim which keeps them relatively lean (10-15%) but dont really lift
swimming builds a decent base along with low body fat. they arent actually that big. just really lean
tall. self explanatory
i know a bunch of swimmers who are skinny as fuark. it usually comes down to lifting weights/genetics to look good (PED if you're a pro)Ex-Distance Runner | Ex-Sprinter | Current Bodybuilder/weight lifter

not all sprinters look like that though. lately the spritners are getting more jacked than the sprinters 30-70 years ago. there are still ur old school sprinter physiques (mainly the white guys) but still some skinny sprinters out there mang.
agreed though. sprinters tend to hold more LBM than swimmersEx-Distance Runner | Ex-Sprinter | Current Bodybuilder/weight lifter
