I'm confused. Correct that your total calories are what matters, but how are you 500-1000 calories short on protein? If i'm understanding correctly, you're saying you are aiming for:

    200-250 grams carbs (800-1000 cals)
    300-400 grams fat (2700-3600 cals???)
and are short 500-1000 calories in protein (125-250 grams...which is probably your total allotment?)

Clearly I'm not understanding what you've said, but that's really beside the point. You can eat whatever you want to get to the desired # of calories, provided you've hit your protein and fat goals. But if you're short on protein specifically, why wouldn't you go with protein shakes/bars/lean meat a pure protein source?

I am currently working on bulking and eat about a tablespoon of PB or other nut butter per day. My other fats come from coconut, avocado, and olive oil that I use as salad dressing. I personally don't find anything wrong with PB and it tastes delicious! :-)

I use it to get in extra fats in my diet, if I want more. Nuts-walnuts, pecans, any nuts are high and fats and you can use these as well.

Well, peanuts have the highest amount of mycotoxins of all foods. I didn't know this, and did find out the same is the case for corn. Since I did quit taking them I feel much better. If you don't care about that, go ahead I would say. Too lazy to find better sources than this atm, but if you google, I am sure you can find something.

    I'd say it's fairly magical

Such a quick, easy, and tasty way to get in some extra calories, plenty of good fat, and a decent dose of protein. I'd say it's one of the staples of my diet. In fact I'm about to have some now, nom.

2-4 tbsp per day in my bulk shake. Love it, but I only use the natural stuff so a little difficult to consume by itself.

Difficult by itself? I think you're talking about the PB that's loaded with sugar and trans fat.

Does PB actually have trans fat in it?
I thought fully hydrogenated vegetable oils were not trans fat? I could be very wrong though.

My preference is for All Natural Peanutbutter. Whether its by itself of mixed in a protein shake.

p28foods.com makes breads and peanut butter spreads with whey protein. They also have some unique flavors that might interest ya.
