Just buy some whey powder, then there is no risk of not finding protein. It is a bit expensive, so I just use it stricly for post-workout. It is out of my budget to take it any more than that, but just having one shake post workout shouldn't burn to big of a hole in your pocket. That is the most important time anyways. Plus, whey is the fastest digesting protein.
If you don't take protein, your body won't recover as fast. And, you won't get as many gains from your workout. It's not that it's going to hurt you by not taking it...but, it's not going to help you out, either.
