    Reverse dieting and water retention

    Currently finishing a reverse diet into a lean bulk. A little ridiculous that I'm gaining weight on such few calories, but I've always had a generally low BMR, and I wanted to be sure of my TDEE before starting a long, lean bulk.

    Week --> Calories --> Weight
    (weekly averages)

    1 --> 1875 --> 134.7
    2 --> 1950 --> 134.0
    3 --> 2025 --> 135.1
    4 --> 2100 --> 135.1
    5 --> 2175 --> 136.2
    6 --> 2250 --> 137.0

    Macros: 85F, 200C (40f, 85s), 150P

    My question is specifically 'how does water retention work during a reverse diet, when added calories came from protein/fat, and carbs remained the same'?

    With carbs unchanged, can weight gain during a reverse diet still be attributed to water retention?

    I've tried searching but couldn't find anything specific to unchanged carbs during a reverse diet...if I happened to miss something please link me to the right thread

    its normal to gain weight quite quickly coming off of a cut OP. When i came off my last cut i gained about 10-15lbs within a month mostly from increased glycogen via increased carbs as well as increased food volume (more food in gi tract)

    My question is referring to a situation where

    i) carbs are not increased
    ii) calorie increase is gradual, not cut --> bulk

    Those are very minor changes in weight OP, and wouldn't be unusual over the course of a day, let alone 6 weeks. Fluctuations in your sodium intake from additional food you're taking in alone could account for this.

    Yea I know its minor, but keep in mind its weekly averages not daily changes. Essentially from 2000 --> 2200 calories has made me gain 2-3lbs, which is normal when considering water retention...but like I said, without carbs and with a very slow increase in cals, is that 2-3lbs still water retention or actual weight gained?

    Btw forgot to mention but my sodium intake has either stayed the same or decreased if anything.

    Thanks

    What i was getting at is that its normal to have a slight increase in water retention when increasing calories so don't sweat it

    Its just water man. You have to eat about 3500 calories more than you burn in a week to gain one lb which you obviously didn't do with that little of an increase

    Without trying to sound repetitive, I know that water retention will happen when you increase carbs or increase cals, but my question is whether the very slow increase in cals makes a difference compared to a larger jump in cals, as well as carbs remaining constant.

    From 2000-2200 cal's gained me 2lbs over 2 weeks, thats 1lbs a week at a 200 surplus (assuming 2000 is TDEE)...I should have gained half of what I did, so my assumption is that water weight contributed to 1 of the 2 lbs gained
