BCAA vs whey after waking up

    Hey everyone,

I've read that as soon as you wake up its a good idea to have some quality protein to make up for the deficiency during sleep. I currently either have Xtend (BCAA) or WPC when I get up. Just wondering if either is better?

    Cheers

Personally I have protein and carbs when I wake up..usually a scoop or two of protein with a banana. I also do that because I workout an hour later and prefer something in my stomach

All those myths have been busted long ago. Do some research in the nutrition forum, go through the stickies and you will realize that how stupid your question is. You don't go catabolic just because you didn't eat/drink protein the whole night.

Yes if you are going to work out in a fasted state, then some BCAA/whey pre-workout can be beneficial.

Put that Xtend to its most optimal use and save it for during training!

For quality protein upon waking, consume a breakfast. Personally I always have eggs and ezeckiel bread as meal #1.

Thanks for the input, having a shake when I wake up seems to work for me so I'm going to keep taking them just wanting to see if anyone can say if either would be better for this situation.

If that's what works for you, then no reason to fix it.

I consider whey a food and if you prefer that as your protein source, keep doing what you are doing.

But don't think you need to wake up and immediately slam a shake or else you'll lose muscle.
