I thought I had this fat loss thing all figured out. Calorie deficit, min protein and fat targets hit=fat loss.
The documentary 'Fathead' contains some contradicting opinions from some pretty well respected professionals in the nutrition industry. Apparently, a deficit is not enough if we are eating too many carbs per day due to the effect on insulin?
Is this true? Because if so, it kind of blows all of the stickies on this forum out of the water.

No it's not true. I don't listen to the so called "experts", I listen to my body. I eat plenty of carbs everyday and even more on the weekends. Look at my sig and tell me the "experts" are right.

There are plenty of guys on here who cut on 400-500g of carbs. The anti-carb stuff is nonsense.

The top 5 of my top 10 commandments for fat loss would be:
1-5: Create a calorie deficit
Beyond that types/timings of foods based on your individual make up and lifestyle will dictate things like energy (for workouts and everyday tasks), hunger, cravings, recovery, mood etc.
Sure, lower carb will suit some people better, but Mr. Insulin is getting a very bad rap recently.Tired of boring cardio? Want to add a challenge to your workouts?

he doesnt cut all the carbs out of his diet.
here is his food log.
The main problem i think is that everything is just about made up of carbs so they are super easy to eat.
It is not uncommon for someone to have 90% of their diet be carbs.
Limit those to a decent amount and you will benefit.

benefit how? And why?
This is where the confusion comes from.
A portion of the bodybuilding community will say cut down on carbs when cutting, and a portion says that carb intake has no effect on fat loss at all. I would like to think that I can eat as many carbs as I feel like when cutting, but there is so much different information out there that tells me otherwise.

So I have not watched the video, but what I have read indicates that its just a little more complex. What do you guys think about the whole low vs high glycemic scale thing? The idea being simple carbs are quickly absorbed and can spike your insulin while complex carbs are more slowly absorbed and better handled by the body overall? There seems to be some logic to that, and on this board we often talk about carbs not being evil (and I agree with that) but we don't so often talk about how to select those carbs...
I may be a loser, but I'm not a quitter!

Doctors will say whatever the people paying their wages tell them to say. Why do you think there are so many conflicting opinions out there. People want something else to blame other than their own gluttony for their obesity problem, as such, the finger will always be pointing somewhere. In the past it was dietary fat, now its carbs, who knows what next?

How about Dave Tate's advice about lifting and proper form? All those years that he looked like this:
Was his advice somehow less accurate than when he gave the same advice when he looked like this:
Everyone has different goals and may have unknown issues impacting their current physique, which does not necessarily impact the accuracy of their knowledge. How about certain posters who refuse to post avatars yet give spot on advice consistently (such as in10city)?

Yes, nobody gives a **** when you are fat, it demonstrates you clearly dont care about how you look. There is acceptable "im bulking" fat, then "im a fat powerlifter with no self control"
Nobody cares about how much you lift when you have to do a 300 lb bodyweight squat just to get out of bed. Its not about "goals", its about balance of everything.
All i see is the two pics:
fatty mcfatfat who doesnt lift
lean guy who cares about his physique and liftsThere is always someone less fortunate, with real hunger, with real adversity, who made something of themselves. What is your excuse?
